    Re: CTS seats uncomfortable

have to weigh in on this old thread.

I too find the seats in my 13 coupe really awful. I almost didn't buy the car because of them. I took an extended test drive and my lower back was hurting. I had this experience in other cars and knew that I could use a triangle pad I had made to resolve the lower back discomfort.

But that issue aside, I really do think Cadillac missed on the seats overall. There is little lateral support, so spirited cornering has me floating all over the place! Plus the depth of the seat is really lacking. The front edge of the seat only comes about 1/2 way up my thigh.

And of course, as others have mentioned, they're hard as rocks. I will say they really LOOK good though. Just not great to sit in! I went ahead with the purchase because I love the emotional styling of the car and so much else. Just for me personally, the seats are a disappointment. Spending huge money to find Recaros or have them reworked by an auto upholsterer is not in the cards. I realize it's just something I have to accept about the car to get all the other great things.

    Just my .02

I did bring the sedan in and had the service dept. look at it and they found nothing but the service tech and I looked on cadillacs website for service bulletins or something and interestingly enough he found something that told them specifically to not put additional foam in the seats. So, Cadillac was well aware of the problem.
Funny, my wife says the same exact thing about my 2010. I still haven't been able to figure out what she's feeling.

I would more or less agree that the CTS Seats aren't the MOST comfortable - Out of all the vehicles we own (1995 Mercury Cougar, 2010 VW Jetta TDI, 2004 Silverado LT CC & my 2010 CTS) or have owned (1980 Pontiac Bonneville, 1997 Silverado, 2001 Mustang), my 04 Silverado's seats are the most comfortable (It's interesting that the CTS Seats are advertised as '10-way adjustable' {AL2 RPO}, but they're really 8-way... my truck has 10-way adjustable seats that not only have lumbar adjustment but side bolster as well). The thing I like the most about my truck's seats is that unlike virtually ANY other vehicle with heated seats, you can opt to turn just the back on, or the back and seat. Having said that, I don't think the CTS seats are the most uncomfortable either. For me, they just took a little getting used to. Personally, I find them to be more comfortable than the seats in her Jetta.

My daughter had a Jetta (previous generation). Those seats were terrible.

    Recaros are the answer.

I prefer the term "adequate" as a better adjective.

    Yeah, they're fine.

I pulled the backs off the buckets and inserted a 3x9 inch piece of stiff low pile carpeting at the base of the metal foam support to solve the lack of lumbar support. I just got a quote from an upholstery shop to convert the center sections to cloth in order to solve the lateral problem, as well as my wife's complaint about feels hot/cold and causes back to sweat. No sweat

I just got a 2009 CTS Sedan with the performance package and heated seats. They feel great to me. Nice and firm and after adjusting the lumber felt good on my back. Bought it in NC and drove back to VA, about a 4 hour drive. Much better than the plush seats in my BiLs STS.

Perhaps those whose derierre does not fit the seats have a particularly weird physical stature.

Well I'm 6'2" 195 lbs. Seems like any production car should be comfortable for a guy like me.

6'2" places you well out of the 85th percentile that any manufacturer bases their ergos on.
Add in the fact that this brand/model has to appeal to women means that 6'2' just moved into the realm of "very few"
The demographic target of a 4dr Cadillac is not the same as a Camaro.
    Just sayin...

Or arthritis, bursitis, a spine that's been repaired - or something. One tends to expect the seats to be more comfortable than the 2004 and 2009 base model Equinox SUVs that preceded the CTS, but ONE WOULD BE VERY WRONG.

    Re: CTS seats uncomfortable

My complaint is not necessarily about seat comfort but the lack of support for the thigh. On a long drive the seat is comfortable but I find that the seat bottom is not long enough and it cuts into the back of my thighs. No matter how I adjust the seat, it's good for a short time and then starts cutting into my thigh again. I've already had one leg go to sleep because of the position. Other than that I have no complaints about comfort.

    Re: CTS seats uncomfortable

I just completed at 2500 mile round trip in 6 days and (for me) the seats are fine. Are they ultra comfortable, no, but they aren't uncomfortable either. Given a choice I would LOVE to have the Recaros with the adjustable thigh bolsters. Maybe my next Cad will have them! Until then, I'm happy with my heated/cooled seats.

    Re: CTS seats uncomfortable

I find my CTS's seats are much more comfortable on long drives (several hours) than short ones. They're not really comfy for the short rides, but I find them to be excellent for the longer drives. I think it's because there is lumbar support that can't be suppressed.
