I've got the same issue. 2008 3.6 PFI. It's frustrating because I can not pinpoint the root cause. Vibration happens in the AM, but usually not in the PM.

    Re: 09 Vibration

Well had the wheels balanced today and the vibration is still there. It must be driveline related and I think it is something I am just going to have to live with. I suppose I could take it to the dealer because the car is still under warranty (drivetrain?) but as others have mentions it will probably persist even after they work on it.

Did you watch the wheels and tires spin on the machine? They can get a wheel/tire combo to balance and still be out of round. Out of round will feel about the same as out of balance when driving. When they are out of round, you can see the tire appear to "hop" a bit when spun on the balance machine.

I did not see them balance the wheels. The only option I had was to drop it off before work. The car is still under warranty I think I might stop by my local dealer and see what they say.

I've been in contact with my dealer about this issue. They asked me if everyone who is having this issue has a CTS4?

I had a chance to throw the car in neutral and coast. The car continues to vibrate while coasting. They also ruled out the curb rash issue I brought up.

Good Point. Taking careful measurements of the radial runout and then indexing the tire to the wheel can often cure or minimize the problem.
1000 years ago I attended Goodyears "Thump & Vibration" school and this was one technique employed.

I could be wrong but if it still vibrates in neutral wouldn't that eliminate the transmission and possibly the driveshaft too? The reason why I say "possibly" on the driveshaft is because it's still spinning. It's just not engaged with the transmission. It could also be a differential issue.

Any one make any head way with this. I have a 2008 cts4 and it almost sounds like exhaust drone but I know its not. It seems to get louder and more high pitch with speed. Does this sound like what you guys are hearing? It doesn't seem to effect my gas mileage or performance, just annoying.

    Re: 09 Vibration

I took it to the dealer and they were able to replicate the problem when the car was cold. They say it has something to do with the AWD system and it would cause more aggravation and possible issues trying to fix it (than just letting it be) since they can't isolate what the exact issue is.

    How reassuring.

Did you have the tires road force balanced and matched with the wheels? If not, try that! It made a huge difference for me. Now, I don't feel the steering wheel vibration on the freeway.

Yes, I have heard that "normal" before. In simple terms, he is telling you he has does not know what to do next and is hoping you buy the normal line and go away. Normal is dealer code for "I give up". In my opinion anyway.

    Re: 09 Vibration

This situation started on my 08 CTS4 and was the final thing before I said adios to it.

But anyway, I went from the stock Michelins to a set of Pirelli PZero Nero's and immediately started having vibration problems. The dealer came back with some nonsense, but after I pressed, he worked on it, and eventually said something about tire run-out, and put the "heavier" tires on the back, which made it much, much better.

Soooooo - maybe try a tire rotate and see if that has any beneficial effect as you say you have two different brands on the axles. At worst it's a half hour in the driveway and lets you clean the inside of the wheels while they're off.

Be sure to torque to proper specs, too. To the best of my recollection I believe it is 140 ft./lbs. Hopefully someone will either confirm or deny, or you can always look it up in the manual (gasp!)(not directed at you) to double check.
