2011 CTS Sport Wagon ( Engine Shutdown )

While driving down the road, the ENGINE just shuts off leaving you with no power steering or power brakes. Coasted to a stop and restarted. My wife said
it happened to her while driving in a parking lot a week before that. Thought she did something wrong, restarted car and continued on. Took car to dealer
for them to check. Told them to dangerous to drive, they need to find problem. Anyone else having this problem? Thanks, Jerry

Jerry, I'm very relieved you and your wife are alright and your CTS is already at the dealership. We would not want any customer to experience what you just described, and I'm so sorry you all went through this. Surely forum members will be chiming in soon, and I hope you'll keep us updated when you get a chance!

I've had an old car do that, not my CTS. Turned out to be a crankshaft position sensor going bad. Very difficult to find when the issue is intermittant. I replaced a few other things before I found the actual culprit.

Good luck and I hope they figure it out quickly for you.

Buick actually. An '88 Park Avenue. I still have it and it still drives great. It's just old enough now that I didn't want to rely on it as a DD anymore. So I just keep it around as a back up vehicle and I use it occationally for short trips into town or when I need to transport the dog as he's not allowed in the CTS.

Had a Chrysler 300M and was active on that Forum a lot. Quite a few of those guys had the same problem, as did I.

Got a Flat Coated Retriever, and she's the reason I have the SportWagon.

I have an 70 pound 8 month old black Lab that doesn't know his own strength yet and loves to chew on things (he's a monster). Maybe when he's older and more mellow he'll will be allowed in the CTS. Mostly he rides in the wifes Grand Cherokee but sometimes I have to drive him when she has her car.

Get one of those pet seat covers. I got one for my wife's Audi, the same woman who said she would never let the dog in her car. It works well. You get what you pay for with those things.

We have an 86lb German Shephard that goes everywhere with my wife. She drives a 2004 Toyota Land Cruiser that is old enough that we don't care about all the hair in the car. You wouldn't believe the amount of hair I vacuum out of there every week. He's thinks he's an 86lb lap dog.

We will occasionally take him in our Mustang convertible.

Needless to say he isn't allowed in my CTS.

We have a guy in the 'hood who went out and bought a big ol' Crown Vic beater. He bought it solely for the purpose of cruisin' the neighborhood with his big mutt who rides shotgun.

First, I apologize the OP for the thread hijack!

Second, the funniest dog in a car I've seen was a friends Siberian Husky riding in his old CJ7 Jeep with no top. That thing shed so fast, there would be a cloud of hair following the Jeep down the highway.

That is good! Keeps the car clean, too! My apologies, too, for the hijack.

Dealer said ECM went bad, having new one shipped in Monday. Hope this cures problem. Leaving for Myrtle Beach this Saturday. Driving for 10 hours worrying whether the engine is going to quit or not sucks to say the least. Will try to report back
again when I get home ( I hope ). Technology is GREAT, or IS it? Computers need a controlled climate, not hot engine, cab or road conditions. SOMEBODY BETTER RETHINK WHAT THEY ARE DOING WITH AUTOMOBILES AND PEOPLE'S LIVES.
