    Twin Turbo V6 CTS?

With all the speculation about the ATS-V getting a 3-liter version of the twin-turbo V6 from the Opel Insignia OPC I began thinking of other applications for that engine GM may use to justify the development costs.

CTS-T. A twin-turbo V6 CTS would nicely bridge the current chasm between the 318hp 3.6 DI and the 556hp CTS-V. Perhaps even help capture the market lost to E550, BMW 550i, and Jaguar XF. Would also serve as a nice step up in size from ATS 3.6 or V and make up for the lack of a non-V series V8 option in CTS.

Buick Regal Grand National. I know some of you are enthusiasts here. Tell me the new Regal (the GS is nice, but not quite enough) in black with stealthy trim, twin-turbo V6, AWD, and a nice Grand National "6" badge on the fender doesnt sound lovely. Even if it does have to be held to slighlty lower output than ATS-V.

    Thoughts? Other ideas?

It's got my vote! Aside from powering the wrong wheels and having it's engine turned the wrong way, the new Regal is VERY attractive to me except it is 4 banger only! Yes, I know the turbo is quite powerful(and the ATS will be getting a hot turbo four), but I still prefer the smooth, linear power a V6(and especially a V8) delivers. I guess I'm old school(although I'm only 35!) in that regard.

Back to the twin turbo V6, heck yeah put that in the CTS. Put it in the XTS as well to go against the ecoboost twin turbo Lincoln puts in the MKS.

I think a new Buick Grand National would be EPIC. If nothing else, it would be a statement/halo car for the brand to show the world that it actually has a soul. I really believe that over this coming decade, styling and branding will become more important than ever for the OEMs as the reliability and build quality gaps among all brands close. I never thought I'd say it, but GM is well-positioned in terms of styling (most vehicles they're putting out are good looking) and branding, as each brand has a long heritage to draw on. A Grand National/GNX would be a great way to kick up Buick's resurgence and earn the brand some more respect, much like the V-series has done for Caddy.

I'll second that! GM needs a twin turbo six to offer in various cars to compete ... that's one place where it's behind the curve. There will always be a place for the V8, but as the popularity of ecoboost with the F150, the days of majority big V8s is over ...

I would love to have the twin turbo in my future car. If the turbo is good for BMW is good for Cadillac

Those are present gen specs. This gen of CTS will not get a Twin Turbo.

True that. I was not clear that I was referring to the next gen '14 CTS for the TT V6, not the current car.

ahh ok, my bad. From what Ive read, every engine in the next CTS will have a turbo or supercharger attached. Looks like 2.0L Turbo base, TT V6 (Motortrend says 1 size, and a few guys on this board who work for GM disagree on the displacement...Id tend to believe the guys working on the engines themselves), and supercharged V8.

    Re: Twin Turbo V6 CTS?

I could honestly see it go both ways here.

On the one hand, since the CTS is growing up it would make sense to grow the powertrain line up as well, but on the other, base models outsell the higher specd cars at an enormous ratio. I don't think they'd loose a lot of customers to an XF-supercharged or a 550i-- I would discount the E550 since it's not available in RWD, infact, you could almost discount the 550i as well, both have a paultry 400hp and the ATS-V is projected at 450 or so, The XF has 470.

Also on the other hand, since the ATS is package protected, an LS3 or LT1 would also fit in there. Food for thought.

    Re: Twin Turbo V6 CTS?

The third generation CTS will receive either a twin turbo 3.0 or 3.6. It appears as if the 3.0 isn't working out as well as GM had hoped. They're still testing both engines but I get the feeling we'll see a 3.6 over a 3.0. The engine will be available in several GM vehicles - including most likely the ATS-V, XTS, CTS, Escalade and more...

Then there's still the rest of GM's lineup: Chevy, Buick, GMC that will use the 3.6

Just an FYI - Cadillac is really working hard at making the third generation CTS a serious player in the mid-size luxury category. I think you're going to find a few things that surprise you inside the car, in a technological aspect...

Add an eight speed transmission to the 2016 model...
