Exclamation 2011 CTS Sedan - Accelerator Sticking

My CTS is a premium model, purchased March of 2011.

Twice, while quickly accelerating from about 65 mph to 70 mph on the highway to change lanes, when I left off the gas, my gas pedal has stuck for about a second or so. This was immediately corrected by pressing on the brake pedal.

Is this a common occurance? a problem? a recall? Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Please advise at what you think I should do. Your advice is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

Never experienced anything like this and I've driven a fair share of 2nd generation CTS. Do you have aftermarket floor mats or anything that it might be catching?

This is not something I have heard of before. I would recommend you take the vehicle in to the nearest dealer as soon as possible to get the vehicle diagnosed. If you would like me to make an appointment at your dealer for you, just let me know.

Thanks for you reply. That was the very first thing I checked. The mats were provided by the dealer and are not aftermarket mats; they were not in any way catching.

Sounds like I need to take it in.

Breanne, thanks for offering to schedule an appt; however, its a breeze with iPhone app.

    Thanks!

Out of curiosity, what app are you using to make a service appointment?

Could it some malfunction of cruise control? (Even if you don't have it on). Tapping the brake to release the accelerator sounds like cruise control.

That's the name of the app, found in the app store :-) works GREAT! On Star's app works well too, each has their own unique benefits.

I will let you guys know what the dealer says, upon repair. I don't think it was CC, but who know's, anything is possible. For now she's sitting in my garage until I'm well enough to take her in (just had surgery).

The gas pedal is probably a drive by wire setup therefore the cruise control is all software. Its not like the old days. Most likely your gas pedal has a serious mechanical issue which is a major safety concern. As Cust Service suggested, you need to get it to a dealer right away....and carefully.

Re: 2011 CTS Sedan - Accelerator Sticking

Interesting thread. Same thing happened to me yesterday.
    2011, CTS, AWD, 3.6 premium, 30k miles.

Pulling onto the highway, pressed the gas to the floor, car accelerated however when I started to let off the gas pedal the car kept going!
I pressed the brake pedal with the left foot and kept tapping on the gas pedal. Finally the rpms dropped. Pulled the car over.

Nothing caused the pedal to get stuck in the car. The floor mats were in place, and the design of the pedal, quite high, makes it
nearly impossible for a car mat to hang it up. I tried a few more times, pressing the pedal to the floor, to see if it would happen again
    and it did not. So, time to take to the dealership; have to bring it there anyway because the car is starting to shake again over 45mph;
tires have been balanced 3 times by 2 different dealerships, has the optional 19" rims, drive shaft recall was done 4 months ago.

    Austin,
Goes to the dealer tomorrow. Besides the unwanted acceleration issue, the vehicle starts to vibrate at 45+mph. Another dealer tried to fix vibration on 2 other occasions (they could not because they did not want to have their tire balance machine overhauled, was 'not in their budget'), another dealer later determined the tires were out of balance, however that issue is back again. We'll see what happens!

Did you have your CC "On" and forgot that you had it "set" to 70 mph, a speed faster than you expected?
