    Steerable headlights

Ok, so I've had my '10 CTS4 for about a year now, and I recently had some minor front end damage, which required a driver's side headlight replacement. The first time I drove it at night, I noticed that the light turned when I turned the wheel. I assumed that the body shop had put in the optional one, and I thought it was pretty cool, and assumed it was just that side. Then I hit the autostart while I was approaching the front of the vehicle and noticed that both lights went through a calibration test when the car started.

Now I'm confused. I did a quick search and found that the steerable headlights are part of the performance package, which I have. But how could I have not noticed this before? Or was something possibly shut off and the body shop guys activated it again?

Doubtful it was shut off, maybe you really just didn't notice it although I noticed it right away as one of the really cool features. Who knows, but if you have the performance package you should have it and if not, well you have it now so all's well that ends well.

It is quite possible the original one was defective, or stopped working. It is also possible you just never noticed it. The first time I pointed out to my wife when we were driving at night she had no idea what I was trying to show her. She didn't see it at first. I had to drive kind of slow and keep turning the wheel before she finally saw it.

I noticed this feature the first night I had the car. Anytime I drive my LS(or a loaner which doen't have the feature) I can tell and I miss it. If you never noticed it before, something must have disabled it. One question, do you normally use the automatic light feature or do you manually turn your lights on? The switch must be in the automatic light control position for the feature to work. If so, my guess is something may have been disconnected from the factory and the reapir corrected that. Or else the headlamp that was replaced was defective from the beginning, although I believe the DIC will give you an error message if the AFL system fails. Sorry to hear of the damage, but glad you are finally able to enjoy this featue.

I always use the auto, hate having a car without that feature. I dunno how I could have missed it all that time. Now I see it with even small changes in steering, plus I notice the calibration in my marge when I start it. Whatever, cool feature!

    Pesticidal,
Hey! I think that feature is one of my favorite on those cars! I didn't notice it at first when I first saw it, but I think it is awesome! Glad you found it!
