    Ceramic pads

I'm thinking of purchasing ceramic pads for the front brakes of my CTS. As you may see from earlier threads I'm having a horrible time with brake squeal. I have had the TSB performed for the rear brackets but still the squeal remains. It is difficult to tell but I feel it may be from the front pads which are not covered under a TSB. Anyway I have a few questions. Are ceramic pads more less likely to squeal? What type of pads do you recommend and what would the cost be. Thanks in advance

    Re: Ceramic pads

Can you describe any of the conditions as to when your noise occurs? When you first back out of driveway? When the car is hot? Cold? Sitting in traffic for extended periods? First brake apply of the morning? How frequent do they squeal? Once a day? All the time?

What month/year was your 08 manufactured?

Thanks for the response Someday. It seems to happen all the time. More frequently and louder when the temperature is cooler but also when hot. I have noticed when braking significantly harder the noise decreases. I do not ride the brakes or abuse the car by any means. I've tried everything aside from ceramic pads.

I always use OEM pads on all of my vehicles and never have a problem. Stops great no squeaks. OEM I believe is ceramic.

    Re: Ceramic pads

There is a thread about Ceramic Brake Pads and a "group buy" arranged by forum member RAB over a year ago. I acquired Ceramic brake pads back then during the "group buy" purchase and I had my dealer install them (to minimize brake dust filth) and they have been great--squeak free and clean! Good luck!

Most "ceramic" pads are made by the same company in Canada. I bought mine from Pep Boys about a year ago and have not had any problems with them.

Can you do brakes yourself? If so, get some disc brake quiet and smear it on the BACK of the pads. Usually eliminates brake noise, and it's cheap and easy. Assuming you can do it yourself.
