I use the BlendMount with an Invisi-cord tapped into the mirror for my old faithful Passport 8500 X50. It is a little pricey but worth it in my opinion. Very high quality piece.

Crazy that this just popped up, I'm about to direct wire my Passport Max into the rear view mirror.

Hey let us know how the new MAX is Escort seems to really be marketing it. Sort of interested in getting one but I'm quite satisfied with my Escort SmartRadar.

this is a great guide. I hate how messy my radar detector's power adapter makes my suv look. It is easy and convenient to remove though? because I never leave my detector in the suv to prevent thieves from trying to steal it because I have the new escort max and wouldnt want it stolen yet. There's a good source about it here at http://www.thehonestreviews.com/gadg...rt-max-review/

Might want to look into a Blend Mount, (http://www.blendmount.com), this hangs the unit under the rear view via the mirror post. I have had this setup and the same power option for 4 months and loved it so much I did the same to my Vette.

Agree with RJParks on the BlendMount. Clean and neat. I keep my detector tightly mounted to the bottom of my mirror so it doesn't "stand out" for thieves to easily see.

    Re: Easy Radar Detector Installation

I just used the blend mount for my Valentine V1, it tucks so close to the mirror that you can't tell it's there. I also direct wired it, but you better know if you plan to this on a coupe, there isn't enough room to splice in at the mirror connector and the harness above the overhead console is so tight I could barely get enough slack to make the connection. I soldered the splices since there was no way to use easy taps. But in the end it works well and looks good.

    Re: Easy Radar Detector Installation

Just a heads up for radar detectors if anyone travels out their own state. Radar are detectors are illegal in several states and many states have laws about hanging items on the windshield.

I had a Whistler detector back in the late 80s that actually went inside the engine compartment behind the grill. Worked well. Was never able to find another after it failed. I think after about 5 years of the snow and ice in the Northeast did it in. Wish I could find another like it.

See list of states where they may give you a hard time:

    Re: Easy Radar Detector Installation

Just food for thought if you happen to have a 13 with the rear camera in the mirror. There's no switched power in the mirror connector. I just went through a week of frustration and luckily an amazing forum member did some research for me to verify it. The pink wire is dead in BU camera mirrors! The lonly power in that connector is unswitched!

    Re: Easy Radar Detector Installation

I have an Escort Passport detector but I can't use it on my 2014 CTS Vsport. The radar that the car already has for lane detection, cruise control, distance detection, etc. keeps lighting up the detector, thus I keep getting too many of these false detections.
