    Passenger Airbag Light?

Just accepted delivery today on FE1 DI and noticed the airbag light does not turn off. The light correctly indicates passenger airbag off/on but stays illuminated in yellow. My dealer stated this is normal, but would check with service. Anyone know if it continually stays on while vehicle is running, and if so can you turn off the light once it does it's check?

Mine stays on too - I don't have my owner's manual on me to confirm (and GM's site doesn't have the digital version of the owner's manual for 2008s up yet), but because it's an automatic sensing type of system, I'll bet they meant for it to stay on at all times.

Just the opposite for my 08 CTS.

The message goes off, when someone or something occupies the seat, that is heavy enough to activate it. That the way the system operates. When someone sits in the seat and buckle up, the message will go off.

The light remains on when the seat is unoccupied.

    Re: Passenger Airbag Light?

From pages 3-34 and 3-35 of the owners manual:

    Passenger Airbag Status Indicator
Your vehicle has the passenger sensing system.
Your instrument panel has a passenger airbag status
    indicator.
When you start the vehicle, the passenger airbag status
indicator will light ON and OFF, or the symbol for on
and off, for several seconds as a system check. If you
use remote start to start your vehicle from a distance,
if equipped, you may not see the system check.
Then, after several more seconds, the status indicator
will light either ON or OFF, or either the on or off symbol
to let you know the status of the right front passengerís
frontal and seat-mounted side impact airbags.
If the word ON or the on symbol is lit on the passenger
airbag status indicator, it means that the right front
passengerís frontal airbag and seat-mounted side impact
    airbag are enabled (may inflate).

If the word OFF or the off symbol is lit on the passenger
airbag status indicator, it means that the passenger
sensing system has turned off the right front passengerís
frontal airbag and seat-mounted side impact airbag.
See Passenger Sensing System on page 1-64 for more
on this, including important safety information.
If, after several seconds, both status indicator lights
remain on, or if there are no lights at all, there may be a
problem with the lights or the passenger sensing
system. See your dealer/retailer for service.

    Re: Passenger Airbag Light?

It varies a bit from model to model.
The ones with the indicator on the mirror display the status of the air bag all the time. Whether it is on or off, one of the lights is always lit.
The newer overhead console indicators work in a similar way but they use icons to indicate the status. I am not used to looking at them so I can't say off the top of my head. I'll pay closer attention and report back if you'd like.

I think the excerpt from the owner's manual should clear it up for you.

The light will never go OFF, but the message OFF, will change to ON when someone sits in the passenger seat and buckle up.

    Re: Passenger Airbag Light?

I have a 2010 CTS purchased in Canada. Recently relocated to the US and have to import my CTS. One of the requirements is that the passenger air bag noticiation must state "Passenger Air Bag Off/On" where as in Canada, only tthe symbols must be activated. Any thoughts on how complicated it is to get the "Passenger Air Bag Off/On" wording activated in order to be US compliant?

    Re: Passenger Airbag Light?

OK, for everyone telling what "their light does", here is what the manual says for a 2010.

"When the vehicle is started, the
    passenger airbag status indicator
will light the words ON and OFF,
or the symbols for on and off, for
several seconds as a system check.
If the vehicle has remote start, and it
is being used to start the vehicle
from a distance, you may not see
    the system check. Then, after
    several more seconds, the status
indicator will light either ON or OFF,
or either the on or off symbol, to let
you know the status of the right front
    passenger frontal airbag.
If the word ON or the on symbol is
lit on the passenger airbag status
indicator, it means that the right
    front passenger frontal airbag is
    enabled (may inflate).
If the word OFF or the off symbol is
lit on the passenger airbag status
    indicator, it means that the
    passenger sensing system has
turned off the right front passenger
    frontal airbag.
If, after several seconds, both status
indicator lights remain on, or if there
are no lights at all, there may be a
problem with the lights or the
    passenger sensing system. See
    your dealer/retailer for service.
    {WARNING
If the airbag readiness light ever
comes on and stays on, it means
    that something may be wrong
with the airbag system. To help
avoid injury to yourself or others,
    have the vehicle serviced right
    away. See Airbag Readiness
Light on page 4‑21 for more
    information, including important
    safety information.
