    How Important is a tune??

I have basic bolt ons. Long tube headers. Magnaflow Exhaust w/ X-Pipe. CAI. Check engine light is obviously on from the headers.

My question is, is it worth tuning? Guy I know who has a pretty good reputation for tuning in the Houston area will dyno tune it for around $300-$350. I was told it was bad to be getting on it without a tune. How much can I expect to see on power gains? Is it bad to be driving without the tune? Thanks

The only way to really tell if it's bad to be driving without a tune is to check you A/F ratio. Power gains I’m unsure of, but obviously better with a tune.

A tune (a good tune) is more than a power increase. It's about drivablilty and how the vehicle reacts under certin conditions.

Patrick Guerra is close to you, I'd look to him for tuning.

"Back in the day," most guys were reporting a 20-25 rwhp gain with L-T headers and a tune on an LS6 ... a bit more for an LS2. Your results may vary.

As stated above, the tune improves non-WOT motor response, as well.

Re: How Important is a tune??

I just had mine tuned today. 374/365 which was only up 9Hp and 6 torque from pre tune. He was able to fix my A/F ratio which was throwing on my check engine light. I only have the basic bolt-ons as well (Kooks headers, Corsa exhaust, CAI). I am happy with it. If you have the extra money to get it done to make your V running optimally, I suggest doing it.

Just got mine tuned a month ago. I wish I had it tuned from the day I bought it. (All bolt ons) A little more power, but it also drives much better. Do it!
