    8.8 diff....

    http://m.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1592297

im sure this has been asked a million times.. the diy 8.8 thread on ls1tech is above.

My buddy has an 8.8 31 spline diff from his cobra that hes willing to sell to me for $100.

Im going to buy it. I know ill need to use the cobras inner CV's and replace the outer ones with my stock ones. My question is..

If i were to marry the two with my axles, will it line up? Or is the Cobra's inners too long?

Im pretty sure my DS wont work so ill just get a one piece aluminum.

I know the stock axles are junk, i know i should just buy the CS ones, but for now, i just want to get rid of the whine and have a wayyyy better diff.

    So, recap...

Will a 8.8 diff, with Cobra inner cvs and my stock axles and outer cvs, work?

No none of the stock stuff will fit.the new diff is much wider and your axles will be to long and most likely the wrong spline count for the 8.8 stuff

    Re: 8.8 diff....

Ok so i got the diff AND inner cv joints.

Is the stock V outer cv's 28 spline? If so, is there anyone (or company) that makes just the axles?

Like 31 spline to diff and 28 spline to outer cv , shorter axles?

That way I can use the inners that i got and keep my stock outer?

Sorry if it sounds cheap, but i plan on upgrading along the way, just tired of the whine and dont want to waste money on another factory diff.

You can contact the Driveshaft shop. As long as you know what lengths you need and all the specs. I did the whole 8.8 swap from Creative Steel. Now if your Diff was the same as mine I could just measure it and let you know. Do you have the adapters to hook that Differential into the sub-frame of the V? Right now I would get in contact with Creative steel and their engineers there are very knowledgeable.

    Re: 8.8 diff....

8.8 is the route I'm taking with mine, the 9" looks like an awesome kit, but it requires some fabrication work to the cradle. I need the car up and running as soon as possible, the season is upon us .

    Re: 8.8 rear end swap

I need to revise some of the information in that original "8.8 diff swap" post.

The best way to see what comes currently in the kit is to see our website. That original post mentions re-using your OEM drive shaft, that never came to be. We are working on it now as an option to keep the up-front price of the kit down but not quite ready to release it as an option yet.

The Driveshaft shop said in the thread below that they could make a driveshaft spacer for their stock length carbon fiber replacement shaft if I buy one for my stock diff and then decide to go to an 8.8 in the future. Why can't you do the same for adapting a stock 2 piece shaft to an 8.8???

This is what were are going to do. The sticky part of the deal is that DSS wants us to order 20 of the adapters up front.

    Re: 8.8 rear end swap

That starts making the deal really affordable....

What do you think a DIY 8.8 kit with axles, diff mounts and driveshaft adapter would cost??
