    My hearing stinks, but are you talking about the rather low frequency, more of a "clunk" sound? I seem to hear that better from underneath the vehicle as opposed to from the top of the motor.

    Yes, that. I don't want to call it a knock cause that I have heard many times, but yes. You have always been able to hear it more from under the drivers door. .

    I have had someone say the flywheel, however not sure if that would cause said noise to be matched with revs (in neutral)....then again I know the dual mass has many shortcomings.

    Yeah, the dual-mass FW is bolted to the crankshaft, so it spins with the motor regardless of gear/clutch/etc. I'm not so sure it's valvetrain related as it sounds more like every rev, not every other rev.

    IMHO, you need to get under that beast and listen "real good" and try to isolate that noise. Know anyone with a lift?

    I don't...at least not in Texas currently.

    I am willing to drive, within reason, if anyone has access to one around the central Texas area. This noise is driving me nuts and I am OCD enough to not let it go apparently.....lol
