If you have the original diff in an 04 I wouldn't be standing on the gas ever; until you can save up to purchase a replacement diff.

I have RED cradle bushings in mine and there is no difference in sound for daily driving, the BLUE bushing in the front of the diff added a little diff noise; but I do have a gen 4 diff with maybe 10k on it.

Oh ya, forgot about the wheel hope too; HUGE improvement.

fuzzy--- no no.. i like the cradle bushings.. Im happy with their performance.. I hate the worthless POS differential... and I hate the clunking noise.. all I was saying is that for MY car I might have stuck with stock bushings for now just to not be able to hear the clunking.

Fortunately, I think that 54 and GulfM3 over the LS1Tech forum are just about to complete their DIY 8.8" project, which should allow you to build your own IRS for about $3500. More importantly, you won't have to buy everything at once...you can stretch out the project as long as you want to fit your budget.

changed the rear end fluid. Used royal purple 75w140 to attempt to help with whine, no difference that I can tell. We did find a flaked piece of gear tooth on the drain plug. Always nice to see that, so then we went out and left some black marks on the road. Always a good choice.

    Hey Fuzzy,

Which diff bushing did you go with Red or Blue ?
If it was Red; what are your thoughts ?

What do you think of this video. I was kind of surprised to see the diff move being I have a BLUE revshift bushing in with the CS Block.
Wondering if I should upgrade to Red; or should I let it have that little bit of flex. I just doubled checked all my bolts too, nice and tight.

voodoo, I hope you don't mind me throwing in this post on your thread, figured we were talking about the same thing

Re: After my Revshift Red Cradle Bushing install

Sevillian, I have the red bushing. Honestly, I don't think you'll see a worthwhile improvement moving from the 80A blue bushing to the 95A red one. I also have the CS block, and the differential moves. But the really bad clunk (the clunk associated with the differential physically hitting the subframe) is a thing of the past. I just have the ridiculous two-piece driveshaft/gear lash clunk. In the video you posted, the differential barely moved because you aren't putting much torque into the drivetrain--take that out on the road, however, and you'll probably see double or triple the deflection.

fuzzy-- with the all the work youve done and having the cradle out & whatnot.. how come you havent had the gear lash adjusted? or is it not adjustable in these diff's??

sevillian-- no worries, post away that deflection in your video is crazy, I didnt think with upgraded bushings that it would still torque that much!!!

I'm not sure if it's adjustable. I'm less than 6 months away from having a 9" IRS in my car, so I'm just dealing with it.

Reading all these threads in a paranoid anti-jinx, I ran across someone who said he'd had it adjusted, but parts had to be ordered direct from Getrag and they weren't something normal folks could buy.

I was wondering the same. Has anyone had the lash adjusted? Might go a long way to a more durable rear.

Re: After my Revshift Red Cradle Bushing install

I just read an old thread that said the rear diff is not adjustable by gm, but that it is physically adjustable, and parts do need to come from getrag, but they are pricey.. thats all it said. No sure how relaible it is.. too bad you cant just pop a back cover off to inspect things, short of a bore camera in the fluid fill hole.... lots of work to pull the diff just for peeks.
