Remove LPE intake before dealer?

Remove this ad
Well it's time to bring my car in for the infamous "bad battery". It's getting to the point where it wont hold a charge for more than a few hours. Should I remove my LPE intake before I bring it in? I don't think it will cause concern but I just don't want to take a chance with my warranty if I come across the wrong person. Suggestions?

Re: Remove LPE intake before dealer?

I wouldn't remove it - you're going in for a battery after all.

Now, if you were throwing codes, then yes, remove it. I left my intake in (More and then FFV) an several service calls and never had an issue with warranty work. Then when the temp sensor wire had a short (by then the stock intake was back in place just by chance) they repaired it under warranty, even though there is a chance that pulling the airbox out created the short in the wiring

Just leave it in place, and let us know how the dealer treats you on the battery.

Re: Remove LPE intake before dealer?

In order for a dealer to deny a warranty claim due to an aftermarket part, they have to prove that the aftermarket part caused your problem. An example would be doing engine upgrades, then your engine blows.

Some dealers have been known to be a pain though. I knew one that said aftermarket wheels caused this guys tranny to go bad.

Mitsu got flamed in Utah because they denied a guy's warranty repair on his engine ($8000). They found "proof" on the internet that he was racing his car, I think in SCCA type II which I think doesn't exceed 60 mph.

I would think they couldn't link your battery to the air intake, just as they shouldn't be able to link disabling CAGS to a transmission failure.

A lot of dealers are mod friendly and it helps to know the service advisors also.

Re: Remove LPE intake before dealer? UPDATE

Well, I left the LPE intake in when I brought my car to the dealer and everything went just fine. They kept my car for a few hours just to make sure it wasn't draining when the car was off. I got a call about 3 hours later saying it was indeed the battery. On the work order it says "Battery failed DBA".
