    Volant Rant -- Stock Airbox Modification

    I recently purchased a Volant Intake System in hopes of some better throttle response and a few horses. After installing the kit which was more difficult than I had expected I went ahead and went thru some key cycles in the garage and letting it idle. Took it out and let the V scream... I was disappointed right away when it felt like it was struggling in the lower RPM band and not doing too much in the higher. Drove it around maybe 5 minutes and was ready to take it off. No hate on Volant here, just saying it didnt work out for me and my V.

    My stock box has been modified as shown in the pictures: K&N Drop-In, Heat taped the box towards engine/ radiator side, and a re-plum using a carbon fiber tube and silicon couplers.

    Cliffs:
    Purchased Volant
    Installed Volant
    Disappointed by sluggish lack of power
    Went back to modded stock box with drop-in K&N 5 minutes later
    Satisfied again with noticeably better acceleration and power
    Easier and Cheaper to mod your stock box and at least for me, performs far better.

    With the heat tape, have you noticed actual document IAT drops?

    No documented IAT difference but it can't hurt. I might end up peeling it off soon. Since that was a recent idea because I had it in the garage. The re-plum is by far the best mod to the intake I've done tho.

    I came to the same conclusion for the Volant CAI I bought several years back.

    Volant = snake oil.

    Like I said, No hate on the system, Just didnt feel good on my car. Now that could be the tune or a number of other things. My car feels so much stronger with the stock box modified.

    Re: Volant Rant -- Stock Airbox Modification

    if you are interested, I am selling my custom airbox I designed. I installed my ron davis and will end up designing another one to fit this setup. it worked flawlessly and IAT's were down. I just proved it with my new setup without the box while tuning the other day. I will post a picture.... obviously will not come with the green filter cover, but will come with filter, divider, lid & 4" silicone connecter. anyone can PM me if interested. it works great.

    the next picture is my new setup that I have to design the box for.

    I was not overly impressed with my Volant box too
    Had fitment issues and had to re tap some bolt holes to make it work
