Looking at Toyo RA1 275/35 18 - will they fit all around?

I have an 04 V with stock rims - looking for a track tire. I have run Toyo RA1 in the past on my Miata and had good experiences with them, but the only 18-inch size offered is 275/35. I am not sure how well that will fit on a stock rim. Anyone with experience want to ease my mind?

I ran a set of Hankook rs3 ventus tires on my last car. They did pretty well. They have a 245/45 18 available, or did when I was running em on my cobalt. Had a couple track days on em, and it was my daily driver. I got like 20k miles on em before I had to change em out. If you find the toyos are too big check into the hankooks. For the price they were darn good

You might have issues at the front with 275s. Rear should be good.

I've heard good things about the Ventus RS3 - I am currently running V12's as a street tire.

thanks for the advice on the width, too. how much of an issue can I expect up front? Lots of rubbing, or only during certain types of suspension travel?

Tire bulge will be an issue, as you won't maximize the footprint of the tire, given the 8.5 inch wheel width.

If it's only a track tire, you should be fine in the front as well, since you never go full lock on the track.

On the street, rubbage for sure.

I (and others) run 275/35-18s all around on the Team Dynamics wheels. I haven't had any rubbing issues.

+1 on that. I'm running 275/35 all around on Team Dynamics without issue.
Since your using them for the track anyways, why not invest $1100 for the wheels and lose some weight as an added plus...

^ I might jerk off to that picture later. I want those wheels in black to match my V. Someday I will have em.

As sexy as those wheels are, I have an extra set of stockers sitting around that I was going to mount the wheels to.

Re: Looking at Toyo RA1 275/35 18 - will they fit all around?

I've never been a fan of putting tires on the "wrong" size wheels, but I think in this case the 275/35s on 8.5" wheels is the right answer (assuming, of course, that you can't afford or just don't want to buy wider wheels). While 245s may be OK for the street, on track this heavy pig needs more rubber under it. Hell, I run 245/40-17s on my Subaru for auto-x/track duty, and that car weighs 700-800# less than the V! While the 8.5" wheels are technically too narrow for the 275/35s, I think that setup will be better than 245/40s (which is the only R-compound size that is "correct" on the stock wheels). Note that I ran a couple sets of NT01s in 245/40s on my Accessory wheels; in hindsight, I probably should've gone with the 275s.

I don't know. I ran 245/40 rubber on my V1 for years. Maybe I don't have the experience that Pat does, but they worked well for me...

Re: Looking at Toyo RA1 275/35 18 - will they fit all around?

The 245/40s will work - like I said, I ran that setup myself. I just think it's a suboptimal setup for such a heavy car. I was only getting 5 or 6 days out of the 245/40 NT01s, which are supposed to be very durable. I'm getting the same life out of 275/35 Z214s, which are a softer, less durable compound. I'm not driving any slower (in fact, the setup is significantly faster), so I think at least some (if not all) of the improved durability is due to the fact that the tires aren't being worked as hard.

Re: Looking at Toyo RA1 275/35 18 - will they fit all around?

i dont think 275's will fit on stock 8.5" wide wheels, clearance wise, in the front. I have a 265/35 mounted on a spare wheel, that I had
tried for testing purposes, the tire balloons a little bit and is about 1-2mm away from the upper ball joint/ control arm, I can only
imagine a 275 will hit. Although a 245/45 is 110.25mm tall on the side wall, and i know a 275/40 is 110mm tall, so in theory the height
is the same (1/4 of a millimeter). The width is the main concern, and i bet that with a stock wheel (+44 offset) it will not fit. Obviously, the TD wheels fit.
