    Trans lash

Does anyone know how much play there is supposed to be on the output shaft of the trans when the car is in first gear?

    Re: Trans lash

I am interested as well, trying to figure out if it's rebuild time... hard to get into first from a stop and a vibe in 5th 6th...
Keep thinking some gears, carbon fibre synchros, and brass shift forks be making things right

I had replaced my rear end on sunday thinking that the excessive lash was that but now im thinking its either the clutch pp or fw is warped or broken springs on the clutch disk or the dreaded transmission being worn ha.

What rear end did you put in? If stock, you will still have some pinion lash. Should be minimal though. 67K isn't a lot of miles, unless the trans was abused.

Its a stock rear end. I was just curious how much lash there should be in the trams cuz it moves about 1/2 side to side before i can hear it or feel it hit a gear.

Mine has a fair amount of lash... I've never measured it, but was startled by how much the driveshaft turns 'lock to lock'

Hmmm..must be normal then. Are you experiencing any clunk with the new diff setup?

    Re: Trans lash

Yeah, I've got clunk with the CSS 8.8" kit still, but each thing along the way has helped (new clutch, motor/trans mounts, rearend/driveshaft/axle kit).

BUT..... I did some damage at the drag strip that isn't all the way sorted out yet. Got the axle fixed, but still have a wicked vibration at 35mph, and then ~60 and up. Might be a wheel bearing, might be carrier bearing, might be a driveshaft/diff/trans??? It's car speed based. Not sure that's related to the clunk, but both suck

I suspect my trans is really showing it's age, I just turned 123k miles. Very few of them have been easy. Hope I can limp through till Spring.
