    Track tire size

Planning on doing my first track day in about a month. Been looking at getting some used Hoosier tires. Only problem is the size I can get them is a 245/35 r18. Anyone run a lower profile tire like this on a track? any issues? From what i heard from my CTS V buddies I shouldn't go this low. but the tires are $500 for the set with 75% tread left. Hell of a deal. I could keep looking for a set of 245/40 or 245/45 but i'd like to get them soon so I can get them mounted/balanced before i get too busy. Any advice is appreciated. Any thing else I should look out for before the track day besides obvious pads/fluids/oil etc...

275/35/18 for the used slicks (you may even find them cheaper) on Team Dynamic wheels otherwise on stock rims I ran 245/45/18 PS2's and PS SuperSports

Thanks. I have the stock CTS V wheels to put these slicks on. I may try to stick with the 245's all around so I can rotate them, but if I was going to go wider in the back, what have you guys done with the stock CTS V wheels and hoosiers? would a 275 work okay? Im lowered on H&R springs.

I agree with your CTS-V buddies. I've run 245/40s, but 245/35s have a pretty low load rating. Might be pushing your luck.

Yes, there are plenty of people running 35 series tires, but I don't see a single 245/35 on that list. Am I missing something?

Did some research. Max load on a Hoosier 245/35 is 992lbs. If I do this all around that a max load of 3968 lbs. this seems close to me. The Caddy weighs about 3800-3900 Lbs stock, plus full tank of gas and me and an instructor. Seems too close to be safe. Any input?

i run the Hoosier 245/35's. I try and keep my eyes open on the Hoosier discount site:

    https://www.hoosiertire.com/discontinuedtires.htm

I scored my current set a long while back for $75/tire + 6 dolors shipping total (not each). There are deals to be had if you are patient.

Looks weak to me. Consider that when you corner hard all the weight of the car goes on the outer two tires equally if your a super master of driving. That means roughly 2000 lbs on each tire, double max load.

I'm with you on this. It seems too close to be safe to me. I'm gonna have to keep searching for a 245/40 size.

Trukk. how many track days have you done on that tire? you run them on your 05 CTS V?

    Re: Track tire size

HEck, on my cobalt SS I had beefier tires for daily use. I had some Hankook RS3 in 245/40r18 that saw street and track use. They werent as grabby as slicks of course but they weren't bad. And each one was rated at a hair over 1600lbs. So in a hard corner, one side could comfortably handle the whole car. Hell, I even got the inside rear cocked up in the air a few times.

As much punishment as a track day throws at the car, having everything over spec'd is kind of nice insurance in my opinion

There are plenty of used tires from different places on the NASA forums. Plenty of 245/40 18s from what I remember...

It is quite disappointing how limited the space is in our wheel wells. I get very jealous seeing cars that weigh a lot less than our Vs (E46s, STIs, EVOs, etc) wearing 275s and bigger with little to no work. It's no fair!

I rubbed at full lock if I hit a bump, so I guess technically they didn't realyl fit very well. But on the track they were good.

    A couple of track weekends.

    You guys are overthinking this.
