That looks like LOTS of fun !
We need crew for Daytona. Sunday 26 May 8am-10pm. We'll have all gear needed. Really just need to come, hang out. Hold a fire extinguisher, check some lug nuts: stuff like that.
Should be a blast if anyone is interested.
Ended up 32 out of 123 cars @ Daytona. There were some *crazy* fast cars there. We kind of brought a knife to a gun fight, as we could only get up to 130 on the banking.
We had an electrical issue that kept us out for about 30 minutes late in the race. We were running 26th when we got meatballed for not having brake lights. Pulled car in and our captain checked the brakelight fuse. Sure enough it was popped. He slapped another fuse in and still no lights. We dorked around for 20 more minutes until we figured our he stuck the new fuse back in the wrong slot :facepalm.
I ran the 2nd and the last stints. With 4 mintues to go, I money shifted on the banking, and had to pull it in. Hopefully it's just some bent valves and nothing worse.
Had a front row seat to a crazy wipeout on the banking:
Should have pulled in after that to clean out my fire suit.
Unedited full first stint:
Our pit stops are still taking longer than 5 minutes, so we are still leaving some time on the table. We tested some modified fuel jugs to pour gas faster. They worked really well: too well. We need to set up a larger tank vent so we can pour as fast as our cans will allow, and not get blow back. FUN FUN FUN!
Our next race is the VIR 24 Aug 9-11. We are running the grand course the entire time. Really looking forward to comming back to our home track.
Had to look up "Money Shift" :)
What's the plan for higher top end speed ?
We could go from a 3.73 to taller gearing, but I doubt we'd do that. 1) we'd have to declare it as added competion value to our car, which would results in (more) penalty laps. 2) I'm not sure if we could get to a higher speed with that gear with a bit less torque at lower speeds in the ammount of distance we have on the banking. 3) We'd only need that for tracks that have crazy long straights/banking. It is not in our immediate plans to do a track like that again.
Head all rebuilt, and we are ready to go for the 2013 VIR 24 Hour Classic. Aug 9-11.
Swing by if you are local, or want to come check it out. We can always use help in the pits as well :D
We have a garage padock room, and a full trackside villa rented to chill in while not racing/crewing.
More vids! More vids! More vids!
Just got back from the VIR 24.
We ended up 15th out of 104 teams. Had some issues with that car. No cool suit for about 18 hours, and ran 12 hours with only 4th gear, and most of the night with only 1 light aimed correctly. No video yet.
Here is the detailed writeup:
P.S. I had my Vagon there. Saw a black v1 padocked across from Ronalds Racers. Didn't have time to try and track you down.
After seeing the pictures from this one at VIR I regret not going up for the event. Glad yall ended up so well despite the issues.
I am guessing you found something like this after the money shift...
From the camera's point of view, you are driving on muscle memory of the track. Can't seem to see much of anything !
