I would definitely recommend going with this kit. Very easy install and everything you need for a good price. I would also recommend doing headers at the same time, since the tranny is out the headers are easy to install.

Thread jacking an old thread, but didn't want to start a new one.

My wife just got me this V2 shift knob for Christmas from Lindsay. I have a few questions.
First, do I need to remove the knob from the boot, and re-use the stock boot?
Second, how the heck do I get the stock knob off of the shifter? I've searched and seen the "yank back and up in 2nd" method, the "put it in reverse and push forward and up" method (as given in the cadillacfaq), the just yank up as hard as possible method, and nothing is working (been trying for a while now). (I know I'm not the strongest person but I can't believe that I'm that much weaker than everyone else who has done this before.)
Can I just twist it off (breaking the plastic piece holding it on) since I have the replacement knob?

(Just to note that I have the UUC shifter with stock knob installed.)

IIRC, this is basically how I did it. I do recall that to have the best control over the situation, with the shifter in 2nd gear, I straddled the console getting right over the shifter with my upper body and pulled like a Mayan (i.e. there's no tomorrow). This way, I kept the knob from going through the sunroof (just barely) when it finally let loose.

I put mine in fourth, pulled up and back, and punched the shit outta my sunroof. Didn't break. Took 4.5 seconds.
