Re: Forgestar F14 Wheels Entering Production (6x115 - FINALLY!)

Got the wheels on the car this morning. After 2 road trips and a week of rain, I need to give my car the business. Aside from that they look great on the car...for those of you on the fence.

Just like lolly (link to ls1tech.com), my only issue so far is that the axle shaft is sticking too far out. And I'm still using the stockers. The center caps will not fit on the rear wheels. I'm going to look into grinding those down. Shouldn't take much to get those to fit. Just need to make sure I get it shaved down correctly.

I'll post some more pics once it's washed and businessed.

How much do you think you need to remove?

Definitely two threads-ish. Working on getting some lift time to make it an easier job.

Here are a couple more pics midway through "the business". Couldn't resist.

And here's a quicky Photoshop without the monster truckin'.

    4doorocket and 4doorocket like this.

Amazing. Sucks about the center cap issue though, hopefully it's not too big of a job to fix. Are you thinking of lowering the car?

You should be able to cut the end of the axle off with an angle grinder and cutoff wheel while it is still on the car (wheels off, of course). Most shops should be able to do this for you, it shouldn't take more than 5 minutes to get through the metal on each side.

Leave the nut on there while you're doing it too. The nut will remove any burrs left behind when you take the axle off next.

Re: Forgestar F14 Wheels Entering Production (6x115 - FINALLY!)

Just got a message from Forgestar engineering:

    Ryan,
We just saw that the rear of the Deep Concave F14 is not clearing the factory lug bolt. We have been actual working on a brand new forgestar centercap for american cars with the axle bolts that stick out in the rear. I am not sure why GM does not make the axle bolt shorter but we realize the issue and will have a solution for it. If CTS-V customers do not want to cut their stock axle we will have a solution available in about 8 weeks and supply our new centercap.
What do you think? Does this sound acceptable?

8 weeks fn sucks, but it's better/easier than having to cut the axle down. But then again, the center caps will stick out further and not be flush.

Seems retarded they didn't check this out first.

They did not. However, they did ask me to make very precise measurements of the front and rear hub flanges and calipers, which I sent along with high resolution pictures. Apparently they weren't concerned by the axle, or they decided to take a risk.

Personally, I prefer flush center caps and have no problem locking a couple of threads off the end. There are at least 12 extra.

8 weeks is the ETA as of now...how long will this get delayed then? I'd cut the axles.

I don't think the ETA for your wheels is affected. They're going to provide them afterwards.
