Re: kinetic energy recovery
Please elaborate, Kinetic Energy Recovery as in KERS, as in Formula1 KERS?

Yes as in KERS in F1, I thought I saw a post of similar or the same but can't locate the post...

Re: kinetic energy recovery
No need for a KERS system on a car that isn't limited by a rulebook. A PERS (potential energy release system) would be better (nitrous, more air/fuel from forced induction, etc).

Re: kinetic energy recovery
They come with them but most people remove the dual mass flywheel.
Lol sorry. I though it was funny.

Re: kinetic energy recovery
Dual mass flywheel is a KERS device (if you use it like one).
Push in clutch, rev engine, then dump the clutch. Congratulations! You have released the kinetic energy of your massive flywheel and exploded your differential lol.

LMAO!!!! I was thinking about a alternative to Nitrus, besides it would be awesome to recharge energy to use as a boost as in F1...just a thought...

New 911s have it or will do.

From some road tests I think they mentioned it has an extra 70hp on tap at full charge.

How widely available is the KERS available for consumer purchased vehicles as an aftermarket option?

Re: kinetic energy recovery
That stuff is widely available. In fact all of my cars have KERS, except the Caddy. GM is so behind the times. The first car for sale in the US with KERS was the 1991 Hyundai Scoupe. It had a Lotus-tuned suspension and KERS system. On cars today, it seems almost as common as ABS. It looks like you've mostly owned Devilles, which is why you aren't aware of how ubiquitous it is. In fact, I'm a little embarrassed for you...

No need to be embarrassed. I've owned other cars as well, I just didn't feel the need to place names of cars not made by Cadillac, in the block for "cadillacs I own". My other cars never had it. In fact I went to work to ask a guy who was trained to service Mercedes and he never heard of it. Not a single person at my job has KERS on their car. And this is from a myriad of cars made by many manufacturers: Chrysler, Dodge, Hyundai, Honda, Ford, Volkswagen, and Toyota to name a few. And I'm not talking about cars made in the 60's. These cars are 2010 or newer.
And just to be clear, I'm not talking about the regenerative systems on hybrid cars that use the braking to help recharge the batteries. I'm talking about the mechanical flywheel version used to give a quick boost in acceleration after braking.

Re: kinetic energy recovery
What????
KERS only came to F1 2-3 years ago, it's not widespread at all. Not sure where you're getting this info from. No other brand, luxury or otherwise has ever offered KERS in a production vehicle until last year I believe. No Ferrari, no Aston, no Merc, definitely no Hyundai, no one.
Unless you're referring to traction control, in which case you're right. Or am I missing the sarcasm here.
Oops, someone got there ahead of me.

lol I'm pretty sure its supposed to be sarcasm. At least I hope!
