UUC shifter built with knob mount backwards

Mechanic installed the UUC today, claims the shifter knob is 180 degrees reversed, or upside down. Never heard this one before. Anyone got a clue? Seems like a simple problem...

Yeah he probably installed the shifter with the notch toward the back instead of the front.

Exactly. He needs to remove the bottom bolt in the base and rotate it properly.

Gee, that's real helpful jim. Kid has never done a UUC before and actually worked from some of the helpful hints from this forum. This dude has done a huge amount of work on my V in one week-Maggie, axles, shifter, headers, exhaust and harmonic balancer which was the most difficult part. Price I'd be ashamed to mention, also. Magnuson called today and approved him for a dealership. I'll save my "botch" comments for when I actually drive the car.

Hey Houdini, thanks for yours and another forum members for the helping comments. This kid had never changed out a UUC/CTS-V shifter before and once he saw it in writing it helped him figure it out quick. The V was a rather large build(Maggie, harmonic balancer, headers and exhaust, Racetronix in tank fuel pump, deluxe axles/CV's and if course, the UUC shifter being discussed. The big argument came in over whether to limp the car to the dyno, or install the canned tune from Magnuson. Found out something rather interesting during this process. I bought the Maggie kit from Thomas at Hendrix for $4900-great deal huh? Cindy Hernandez, whose been at Magnuson for years clued me into the Hendrix "discount." They remove the hand held tuner from the kit, which saves they buyer $400. Hey, OK- I doing a dyno tune anyway-doesn't everyone? Magnuson automoatically warrantys their superchargers for 3 yrs/36,000 miles ONLY IF YOU BUY THE COMPLETE KIT. Will I pay $400 for that warranty, absolutely! Manuson sends you their custom tune based on what you tell them you've done to the car-that's the one they guarantee. This deal is only for LS motors. LS7s must have entire ECU removed and sent in for reprogramming. Is all of this true? I don't know but anyone is free to call them 805-642-883, ask for Cindy in Sales ext 264. She seems to know a lot and has done everything she has promised so far. Again, thanks for helping out!

    UUC shifter mystery continues

Mechanic says "the shifter only goes in one way on the bottom. If you move it 180 it just wont move at all." He thinks possibly the shifter itself was assembled backwards and needs to be cut and reassembled from the middle? Anyone every encounter any of this before. So right now the shifter lever is working fine, its just "upside down" on top (the numbers). If he reverses the orientation of the bolt underneath, it just plain wont move at all...

Didn't somebody else have this problem awhile back. UUC actually machined the numbers wrong...just return the shifter knob and install a V2 knob instead.

    UUC shifter mystery solved

Yes, after driving my mechanic and myself crazy for the last 2 days, we called Robb, owner of UUC. " A certain number of shifters (no number given) have been shipped out assembled backwards. Drive you F'in nuts if you've never worked with one before! UUC agreed to overnight a new one for free, or suggested "just put on a nob that can face either way, cause that's really the only difference." Luke at Lindsay put me on to this, hasn't been the first time. Wish I knew Pisnuoff before I laid out $400 for "the best shifter made for this car." Caveat Emptor (let the buyer beware). Now what do I do with my wrench? He's got over 6 hours into trying to figure this out. Maybe UUC should send him another shift kit gratis? Sounds about right money wise...

UUC should replace the shifter and comp you for the hassle.

Maybe they should comp you a new shift knob.

    Check out MOMO.
