    245/45/18 front, 255/45/18 rears OKAY?

I need new rear tires for my V and i have a chance to get a pair of really nice tires for cheap. The only thing is, is that the tire size is 255/45/18. These should be okay on my rears right? The size isn't that much different than stock.

    Front 245/45/18
    rear 255/45/18

those will be fine. You speedometer will have a small percentage error though. Many people prefer staggered tires to provide better traction for the rear wheels

Go with 275/40/18 rears, fit and look great. Nice feel. Also has same diameter as 245/45/18

I don't see any benefit to only going up 10 mm wider for the rear tires. You won't see any appreciable performance benefit, nor will it look any different than stock, and on top of all that, you will be screwing yourself out of being about to rotate the tires front to back. If you want to go staggered, go big...the sizes stated in the previous post are much better.

I am only considering 255/45 because my friend is selling a set for cheap. Re-read my original post Daniel son, and you shall find the answer to your question.

With that tiny amount of difference I wouldn't stagger them just get the same for the front too. Why wouldn't you buy two more of the same size, you're really thinking of using mismatched tires? Car is too nice for that.

    Tire Size Comparison

Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
    245/45-18 4.3in 13.3in 26.7in 83.8in 756 0.0%
    255/45-18 4.5in 13.5in 27.0in 84.9in 746 1.3%

Also....w/.7in difference in diameter between the two sizes...I wonder at what speed the stability control will kick in due to different wheel rotation speeds....?

Probably wouldn't want to find out.....

OK...you got me...I didn't read the whole post (and usually I'm the one giving people crap about doing that). Either way, cheap or no, I still wouldn't do it unless you decide to get matching front tires. But, IMO, the stock size tires already have too high of a sidewall, and if you go up in size to the 255/45 you will be making that sidewall even taller, which would cause a big problem if you ever try to lower your car.

you really only need to have the same tires across and axle. not sure where the talk about having the same tire at all four corners is key seeing how each axle has its own unique set of requirements. people just tend to buy all four of the same since, well most times it doesnt matter either way for a street car.

granted this only works if you have rubber that works regardless of brand.

I'm pretty sure there have been instances where people had traction control/stabilitrak issues due to tire sizes which were too different from front to rear. Has to do with wheel speed sensor revolution counts being too far off from one tire to the other and the computer interpreting that as a loss of traction.

Back to the OP. I wouldn't bother staggering tire sizes front to back unless your jumping to a 275 or greater in the rear. And even then, unless you're tracking the car or drag racing, the cost/benefit ratio starts to creep into the negative region. Just find a matching pair and go 255-45 all the way around. If you can't find a matching pair, then I wouldn't bother taking the tires at all.
    jaskel and jaskel like this.

I wasn't really commenting on potential stabilitrak issues, I'm guessing such a small difference wouldn't trigger it but I dunno. Just that from the sound of it (great deal on a pair of really "nice" tires) these are high performance tires in the back and apparently "other" not as good tires in the front...

I wouldnt buy that combo of tires just to save a buck. Either do 245's all around or the 245 and 275 combo. If you ever like going into or coming out of corners quickly you will appreciate the staggered setup for this car. If we could fit it easily most of us would be running 315's in the rear to be honest.

I don't mean to continue beating a dead horse here but Naf/Justin are you saying run 275's in the rear with stock rim width and no other changes? I know I should search again but I'm at work and it's relevant to the discussion on this thread. I'm ordering tires this week so I'm curious, I'm planning on 255/40 all around and thus can rotate them, but I have the option of 275's in the rear on fully stock setup and you're saying that's actually better handling for hard cornering? Sorry for the noob question.
