i think the stock drive shaft is fine, especially with an adapter.

It would be nice to know if the strength is there in a 28 spline axle. Better yet use the t-bird inner cv's and caddy outers (strength again?)
if we could get the entire kit down to the brackets, a driveshaft adapter, and the axle shafts themselves+ plus a cheap used t-bird diff and inner Cv's, this might be the best budget solution available.

I think you have a great product here, it would be nice to just see the second layer of it, the real budget solution, to go with the upgraded 31 spline version.

I know it may not be said enough, but thanks for making another option

I'm reluctant to spend a dime adapting to a driveshaft that has the failure rate and unservicablility of the stock unit, but when the bucks are down, it could make sense.

A one piece driveshaft would make a great option and one a lot of us will need at some point.

either way, I'm glad to see there are finally good options....

This looks to be an ideal solution and I am interested in buying the kit to install my own 8.8 and will be using a true trac in it. Especially if it will fix some of that clunking... I recently installed a TrueTrac with motive gears in my pickup and it is very quiet & smooth.

There have been a couple of posts here on gear oil. Thing is on a True Trac, they don't need friction modifier as they use sliding helical gear to provide power to the tires. This means a few things, there are not any wear parts like a LSD, provides a mechanical locking of the wheels and no need for the FM like in a LSD type differentials. Also, Eaton recommends using a quality petroleum/mineral based oil and state they don't recommend synthetic with a TrueTrac.

    Max, are you still here?

So it sounds like the kit comes with the 8.8 brackets and driveshaft adapter, correct? If we want to piecemeal a kit, we will just need to have custom axles made and supply the 8.8. Does that sound correct?

hey just an fyi guys, I have a tbird sc (with a twinscrew) and this 8.8 in it and have followed those forums for years. It is pretty rare that someone would break one, and if they did it would almost always be an AL case. There are a handful of guys in the 10's and a few in the 9's. But mostly or all automatics at that level, which would help soften the initial hit. The SC halfshafts break pretty regular though, I wouldn't recommend those.

It's pretty easy for an SC to make 400 ft-lbs, but pretty hard to put 400hp to the wheels.

Figures there would be some SC fans here too... My dad had one when i was growing up, and is part of the reason I have a 96 t-bird in my garage too.

Did this die? Definitely sparked my interest, but haven't seen a response for a while.
