I like the LPE simply because the shroud is better. But honestly, none of them are worth the money.
You'll get a nicer sound, very little HP gain.

My car came with the LPE CAI. it does add a little to the sound of the car, but seat of teh pants, i felt no power difference when i threw the stock airbox back on.

i don't know what other mods you have done yet, but there are to many things i would do before a CAI on this car.

I just personally did the DIY intake, adding a Lingenfelter flat-cone filter to the stock tube and made a custom heat shield from a $6 Office Depot trash can adding some weather stripping. I talked to the guy at the local shop, which is owned by Lingenfelter's daughter and husband (who personally owns an '05 V), and he said that the Lingenfelter CAI kit uses the stock air tube and just adds a filter and heat shield. So, I would assume if they don't mess with the tube then it is probably not really worth it to upgrade it all. The new filter does make it a little louder and looks pretty cool, but other than a little throttle response (which is probably all in my head) I don't think I got any power out of my set up.

I would say make your own using the Lingenfelter filter...for the money it seems to be the best bet, IMO.

I believe 57-3054 supercedes 63-3054 as a part number change. Summit Racing Equipment lists the latter as being no longer available and the former as available and for 2004-2005 CTSV model years.

many different list on this forum of what you "should" do to yoru car first:

    CAGS eliminator
    anti-wheel hop axles
    Short throw shifter
    Motor mounts/trans mount/diff mount

If you want the best bang for you buck and it has to be a performance mod, you might look at the new OBX headers (currently only on eBay) they have connector pipes, but no cats, so they would probably blow the $500 budget, but that would probably give the most seat of the pants improvement per dollar.

Wouldn't you need a tune then with headers? Especially if you ran high flow cats?

    Affirmative.

At some point in the engine upgrade process one ought to get hooked-up with a tuner that will do the basic tune (usually not cheap) and agree to modify it from time to time at minimal cost.

An alternative for the first single -mod tune is a mail-order tune from someone like Wait4Me that comes with a spare ECM.

Re: what type of CAI for a 04 CTS-V

Hey, I have a K&N setup for the 04 05 V and will let it go for $150. New filter and most parts, I bought a 06 kit to get the intake tube when I did a 90mm TB swap. However I won't be able to ship it out till next Thrus as I am going out of town for christmas.

Let me know if you are interested.
