Did them today. Love it. Not too loud and not too quiet. Only issue I have is trying to align the pipes so they are both even. Gotta take it back in a couple days.

Went ahead and did the muffler delete also. Used the same tips and everything, easily my favorite mod so far, sounds amazing.

I got mine in the mail, install scheduled for Monday afternoon. Do you other guys have any sound clips, drive bys or anything?

Re: Muffler Delete Soundclips - Before and After

Got mine back from the shop and I like it. I took the highway back and there was no drone at all, no raspiness. In 6th on the highway you can't really tell the difference, around town it's noticeable but not overly loud at all and with windows up it's perfectly normal in the cabin just more bass. No WOT yet since it's raining but that should sound nice. Overall I'm happy, kept the stockers just in case or to sell with the car, and I found out this will pass inspection (at least here in PA) since technically the stock resonator is a muffler... good deal.

Re: Muffler Delete Soundclips - Before and After

    VERY interesting option.

Can anyone comment on the difference (if any) in horsepower impact of the muffler delete / stock resonator approach versus the x-pipe / performance muffler approach?

I am looking to LIGHTLY modify my V, to include LPE CAI, Exhaust (tbd) and dyno tune from Matt at TTP Performance.

I love the sound and cost of the muffler delete, but how do you think it stacks up?

Stock Resonator / Muffler Delete = 0 hp gain? Minor loss?

    X-Pipe / Performance Muffler = 5 - 10 hp gain?

I read the poor man's Magnaflow post, but lots of debate. Can anyone in the know make a definitive statement on this topic?

    MANY THANKS!
    Frank

Re: Muffler Delete Soundclips - Before and After

About a year ago, I read a post on a CTS-V stock exhaust and dyno'd.
Then, they put a Corsa system on and dyno'd the car.
2 HP gain at the rear wheels. Well over $1000 spent.
Muffler delete = 0 HP, but you'll sound cool and a psychological feeling of a HP gain.
Now, a lighter flywheel to reduce mass equates to HP & TQ gain.
If anyone has a before and after with no tune, please post the results.

    Thanks Stepside...!

You reminded me, my two other "light" mods will include an LS7 clutch and flywheel and some form of short shifter.

Re: Muffler Delete Soundclips - Before and After

I finally got this done today. Used the same Summit tips as the OP. All I can say is WHOA! It sounds absolutely amazing. My installer thought is was going to sound like crap (why would you want to cut mufflers off a Cadillac?) but he was floored when we fired it up. He said sounds like a damn corvette now, sweet mother. Haha.

There's definitely a drone right around 1800-2000 rpm but its easily solved by just riding a gear lower than you might be used to. So if you're used to cruising around in fifth just drop it to fourth and all is good. Anything above 2000rpm is perfectly fine. It just ROARS when you get on it. I mean it really screams. Just the perfect amount of burbles on decel (no real popping) and doing a rev matched downshift coming to a light draws all sort of stares.

Only thing if I had to do it over, and my installer agreed, would be to get some slashed (angled) tips instead of the straight cut Summit tips because it would match the rear valance better. Problem there is Summit doesn't have 4" slashed (only up to 3.5") and the 4" really looks good. Magnaflow 4" are slightly slashed but they have the logo which I don't like. I like the tips I got overall so I'm not all that worried about it.

I did the gutted muffler thing before this and there is no comparison. That sounds like a tin can compared to this.

All in all this is a 9.5/10 mod for me.

EDIT: Forgot to say. $160 invested ($60 for tips delivered and $100 cash money for the install)
