    Broke a valve spring *PICS*

So a month or two ago I started hearing a louder than normal ticking form the driver side of the engine. I chalked it up as me being hypersensitive. About three weeks ago I was going WOT and at 5000rpm the car acted as though it hit the rev limiter. it completely dropped power. I thought it was an issue in the tune so I finally made it to SNL today to get my problem dealt with. After some data logging it cylinder 5 was misfiring. We swapped the plug and plug wire, no difference. Opened up the valve cover and BINGO!

They swapped it out for a new one and now its good as new.

By the way, my springs are PRC dual spring .675".

At least you didn't drop that valve! Those dual springs saved your butt!

I know! I am so thankful I went with the dual springs.

No other damage, just the spring. Glad it wasn't worse.

    Lucky you.

You would be surprised (maybe not) how many Vettes suffer from broken valve springs.

    Dual springs are cheap insurance.

Yup. Even back in '73, I broke two intake valve springs on my '69 Vette.

Glad you got this one figured out quickly and relatively painlessly, whisler.

Nope, that wasn't it. It still does it. Of course when I was at SNL I couldn't get it to do it. I think it may be the hot ass weather in conjunction with the cam. Oh well, I've learned to live with it.

I'm glad I did the dual springs. Had I not then there would have been a lot more carnage. The secondary spring kept me afloat for well over a month.

    Springs had 10,000 miles.

Re: Broke a valve spring *PICS*

My shop swapped out the .675" lift springs to .650". I guess they were having some problems with the .675s. After 2 popped springs all is good now.

I'm still getting the P0300 code often. I think it may be due to a loose plug wire. Have the FireCore wires ordered. Hope that fixed the code issue.

im planning on replacing my stock valve springs. Any benefit on a stock cam to run dual spring over single springs? I'm deciding between the comp cams 26921 (dual springs) and 26918 (single spring)... opinions?
