I bought a used cts-v with cold air intake, magnaflow exhaust and mass air flow kit. But I am not really sure what they do and how much faster they make the car. I know what the cold air and magna does a little bit but if someone can help me with these 3 mods so I know what I am talking about when people ask me I would appreciate it ty.
They make your car breathe easier. Motors are basically just air pumps.
Cold air intake = usually a higher flow rate than stock also helps keep the intake air cooler which in turn has more oxygen molecules per unit volume of air.
Mass air flow kit = a waste of money unless the stock one went bad.
Magnaflow exhaust = better air flow out of your motor and better sound.
These mods by alone will simply enhance the sound of the vehicle. You will hear a whistling from your intake when accelerating and a nice smooth exhaust note with the Magnaflow. This my give you a few hp, but is mostly for sound...unless you end up doing some heavy modding, then you will need those to let the engine breath better.
Maybe you guys didnt pick up any from a CAI, but i have dyno proven numbers that I picked up 10rwhp over another guy on the board who dynoed with the same mods and same dyno/tuner. We both had kooks 1 7/8 with cats but i had a K&N CAI and he didnt, i made 365 he made 355.
BTW, mass air kit is a joke, you gotta be making some big hp to max out a stock MAF.

We were not talking about CAI with mods. Of course you will gain hp if you add CAI in addition to headers and a tune. But this guy is just CAI and cat back.
So just to be clear, you got your "proof" that your CAI gained you 10rwhp by comparing to someone else's car that was dyno'd on a different day? Tee hee hee - that's cute. Hell, I've seen a 10rwhp difference dynoing my own car 6 weeks apart on the same dyno with the same dyno operator with the exact some mods.
WOW, Settle down Ladies!
Bronx, Your Mods (- the MAF kit) allow your engine to breathe more freely. They most likely don't make your car feel any faster than stock (there are those that will tell you otherwise). However, many of the other mods - headers, blowers, cams, etc will not work as well without these pieces. You have a good start, build up from there.
