Fitting a compressor and air tank in the spare tire well...

Remove this ad
OK, I did a little research but have not come up with anything. I have been looking at a few things for the V and have come across a train horn kit with compressor and tank that I am seriously looking at installing on the V just for those mindless drivers that never seem to notice that there are other people on the roads with them. I also have been looking into this because I have been looking into the air bag suspension mod to for our cars as well and having a air source at all times would be nice for that as well. My question is if anyone has ever attempted anything like this? Also, considering the compressor needs to be in a more conditioned space I thought that the empty spare tire well would be a great place to put the tank and the compressor... if they would all fit. The compressor would be no problem but I know that that the tank is going to be the biggest issue as far as fitment is concerned. the kit that I am looking at has a 2.5 gallon tank and the tank is 23.5 inches long and 6 inches wide and 7.5 inches tall. The compressor is 9"x4"x7". What do you guys think?

Re: Fitting a compressor and air tank in the spare tire well...

I have a 10lb nitrous bottle with a bunch of accessories in one side my factory spare tire tub, I can't imagine it would be very hard to get the air compressor/tank in there using both sides.

Awesome! Thanks for the help SkullV.
I may have to try this out to see if I can finally get the crap drivers to get out of my way... or at least keep them out of my lane while I am still there.

Where do you plan on mounting the horns...to me that's the biggest obstacle, those things are huge!

Re: Fitting a compressor and air tank in the spare tire well...

Yeah, the horns will definitely be the next big step... I need to get a better look under the car to se what may be possible. I ma sure that something could be made to fit between the radiator and the front grill, but that would be my last choice for locations. Hopefully I will have some time in the next week or so to really look this over to see if everything will even come close to fitting or not.
