Gforce Axles Review

Alright, here is a quick summary of the results. We used the lollygagger write up for guidelines.

Install was pretty straight forward. Labor was intensive, but can be done in about 1 1/2 hours if you know what you are doing. Here are a few KEY notes.

1. When you are trying to get the outer CV joint off the half shaft, it is very difficult. You will need to use a tremendous amount of force. We wrapped the joint and half shaft with a towel, and hit it with a sledge hammer. (don't damage the CV). It took several hits to finally get it loose.

2. When inserting the shaft into the differential, you are listening and feeling for a snap (most likely won't hear it, but you will feel it). This is the retaining clip going past something inside the differential that holds it in. Once you push past that, continue all the way until it stops. AT THIS POINT, PULL IT BACK SLOWLY UNTIL IT CATCHES.

During the initial install, we left the shaft all the way up against the differential, and it kicked it out when we were on the test run (leaving us stranded three blocks away. If you compare it to the driver's side, even that shaft is out from the differential slightly. We pushed the car back, redid the entire thing, and did what I told you guys to do.

3. When trying to insert the half shaft into the hub, it helps to push up on the bottom of the spring with a jack. This helps to align ALL the pieces that eventually bolt onto it. ALSO, make sure the half shaft is comepletely perpendicular to the hub, or it won't go in all the way.

Results:

3000 rpm clutch dump -> smooth with the rear just raising up and laying down rubber. Experienced minimal wheel hop right before and after the 1-2 shift. Normal, nothing bad at all.

3500 rpm clutch dump -> same result
4000 rpm clutch dump -> same result
Rolling start -> smooth, no hop

After the diff kicking out the axle the first pass, we were very nervous that it would happen again. Luckily, nothing yet, and hopefully nothing ever. This has nothing to do with the half shaft from gforce, it is a design issue with the inner CV.

Overall...very happy. No hop.

These were street or track results?

That's great!
Did you and Wistler both get them installed?

Thanks

Re: Gforce Axles Review

So how bad was the pucker factor when the axle popped out?! I would have automatically thought diff failure! One thing i wonder is if you cannibalize your stock axles and the diff does go out, i guess you'd kinda be outta luck in terms of warranty taking care of it? This would only be an issue for people still under warranty of course. If you had your stock axles laying around and blew the diff you could potentially take the time to put the stock axle back in. Glad the wheelhop is gone for ya though. Its like a whole new car now i bet!

I would p00p my pants. How the hell do you prevent that from happening at all?

Re: Gforce Axles Review

The trick is to make sure you feel the retaining snap out into the retaining groove.
Sometimes those OEM retaining rings get compressed and dont spring back out like they should. You can take them off and expand them a bit so they spring out a bit harder.
If you put the stub in too far and the retaining ring doesnt snap out into the groove then it will come right out while driving.
Best was is to put the stub in until it bottoms out and then pull back out a bit until you feel the retaining ring snap out into the retaining ring groove in the diff.

Re: Gforce Axles Review

These were street results, although the test was the same as if I was at the track (I would think) considering the hard launch and shift through 3rd.

The pucker factor was bad. I had no idea what happened, but heard and felt a clunk and new something was wrong. Hindsight though, couldn't I have still driven it back since power should still be delivered to the driver side?

If it destroyed something, I would just take the gforce sticker off the axle and take it in. Don't think a tech would really be able to tell the axle was different considering the rest of the half shaft is still stock. But technically, you could just put it all back to stock.

Re: Gforce Axles Review

The test is COMPLETELY different at a prepped track. I have had the same exact results as you with my single axle from the other company, but at the track everything changed.

Re: Gforce Axles Review

We ran out of time to install mine. Whenever Dannboss has time to help with my install mine is going in.

We now know how the axle is suppose to fit into the diff. It was much quicker the second time around. Mine should take around 2 hrs now that we know exactly what to look for.

Re: Gforce Axles Review

SkullV, I thought you were talking about the drag strip. I agree that a road course would be a different test. I am going to try and make the next open track day at eagle's canyon.

The only aftermarket "suspension" mods I have are Eibach springs and the TSB wheel hop spacers. Neither did squat for the vicious wheel hop though.

I am talking about a drag strip. A prepped strip offers MUCH more traction at launch then a road course. These axles should make absolutely no difference at a road course unless they are out of balance which would be bad and not good.

Drag strip is planned as well. Looking to do that sooner than later, and will post results.

Sweet! Looking forward to it. Have you been to the strip before and gotten hop?
