Creative Steel/Ultra Mounts Transmission Mount Full Review

Remove this ad
Alright everyone, I said I would write a review of this transmission mount after I had it in for a few days and had driven hard on it so here it is:

1) Idle Quality
This mount has a great feel at idle. There are really little-no added vibrations that would be noticeable to the average person. There is a slight noise increase and I can now hear some clutch chatter when the clutch pedal is out that I never heard before this mount was installed. Overall I would say 10%-20% increase in vibrations/noise
2) Normal Start from a Red Light
There is not much difference in noise/vibrations here from a good condition stock mount but shifting is significantly smoother. Shifting is the only time a noise difference can occur becasue you can hear the syncros "winding" up. I would say 5%-10% increase in noise only due to shifting
3) Hard Launch from a Red Light
Do you ever miss shifts? Do you sometimes have a problem getting into gear? If so then this is the mount for you!!! I noticed that before I had this mount, when I was REALLY beating on it, there would be times where I would have to "force" the transmission into gear, this is no longer a problem. The shifter engages with a nice click on each shift and shifting effort has significantly decreased (this is also evident in downshifts). Overall there is a 5%-10% increase in noise again due to shifting
4) Cruising at any Speed
There is little to no difference here from the stock mounts. No added vibration but there is some added road noise. I would say 20%-30% increase in in cabin noise.
5) Increased HP/TQ
Now I'm not going to go out there and say that this mount made ANY difference in this department, but I do feel like it slightly increased throttle response. This should be expected though anytime you tighten up the drive line. Less stuff to twist equals power to the wheels faster.
Once again Max went above and beyond with this mount. You will never have to worry about this mount's studs twisting, or this mount ripping apart. I would recommend this to anyone including the everyday V driver. I would even go as far as to say that when you are doing that first shifter mod you should get this too to REALLY make a difference. Move over UUC Creative Steel is here to stay and they are only getting better (stay tuned )!

Re: Creative Steel/Ultra Mounts Transmission Mount Full Review

Thanks for the info Ted. Another nicely detailed review. I think Purdue is paying off for ya. From what you wrote I was thinking there might be some "non-performance" folks out there that would like a mount that is a bit softer or closer to stock. Our mount only has 4X the urethane of the stock mount so I think we could safely soften it up and still be way ahead. You guys tell me......From what Ted wrote, leave it alone, go softer, do both?
I'm glad the mount is working out because the mold it required was a real bitch.

A little softer than metal, but stronger than urethane? Very nice

Re: Creative Steel/Ultra Mounts Transmission Mount Full Review

Leave the mount firm. "Increased vibration" is part of running urethane mounts. Heh, wait till one of these boys gets a couple of solid mounts.. then theyll know what REAL vibration feels like.

If you make it a little softer you'll sell more. If it was only 2 or 3X the urethane of the stock mount it would still be a big improvement. I think for the road course track guys who don't need hard launches, it would be a good option.

Re: Creative Steel/Ultra Mounts Transmission Mount Full Review

How hard was the install? Anyone in the DFW area that would help me change mine for a six pack?

I just picked up a 05 out of warranty with broken mounts.

It's hard to answer this question. The cause of the clunk is reduced, and there is less twisting at the differential bushing, but you can hear the clunk just as well due to the poly that the mount is made of instead of rubber...

Re: Creative Steel/Ultra Mounts Transmission Mount Full Review

So Ted, do you think it is it safe to say that these are a superior mount to the (new style) UUCs?
