UUC Motor Mount Install Ques for Maggie-Equipped Cars

Remove this ad
How can I get clearance near the cowl area to raise the motor up a bit to install MMs with a maggie sitting on top? Will removing the wipers/motors and associated panels/covers do it for me? My car isn't here at the moment, so I can't look at it ... my mechanic just called me about it.

BTW, I am NOT AT ALL interested in removing Miss Maggie in order to do this ... certainly not when my OEM MMs are just fine.

Re: UUC Motor Mount Install Ques for Maggie-Equipped Cars

Randy,
Will you be running without a front strut bar then?

Re: UUC Motor Mount Install Ques for Maggie-Equipped Cars

He'd be lifting the engine just to get enough room to install the mounts. Once installed, he'd put back the strut bar...

Re: UUC Motor Mount Install Ques for Maggie-Equipped Cars

You should have plenty of room....Isn't he taking the trans out to put on your flywheel and remote bleeder? That would make the engine even easier to lift the 6 inches or so to put the new mounts in. Especially since the strut tower brace is removed (like deedub said)

Oh ok, Thanks. I wasn't sure there was much, if any spare room between the maggie and Strut bar.

Re: UUC Motor Mount Install Ques for Maggie-Equipped Cars

Again, my car isn't here, so I can't look myself at the moment, but he was talking about the rear of the motor where the maggie is rather close to the firewall/cowl area. The strut tower brace is easy to pop off ... probably have to take off the air intake tube (elbow) between the TB and the MAF, but that's easy, too.

Naw, it's way to the rear of the maggie itself. I remember that spot, 'cause when I did the install, I had to lower it down to almost on the valley pan in order to get it under the cowl area before finally letting it all the way down and in place. Dang! Wish the car was here so I could better explain this.

Re: UUC Motor Mount Install Ques for Maggie-Equipped Cars

He's taking the trans out (do that before the MM's) so why not while he's lifting the engine up, have him move it forward a little to clear it?

Re: UUC Motor Mount Install Ques for Maggie-Equipped Cars

I understand what you're saying Randy. I just ran out and checked the clearance.

You have about 1 inch of clearance between the rear belt/pulleys and two parts of the car that are unmoveable, BUT on my car there is a bolt coming down that is part of the windshield washer assembly that you really only have about a 1/2 inch of clearance with.

So if the wiper assembly comes out, you go from 1/2" clearance to 1" clearance without removing the maggie.

Why hasn't anyone else brought this question up? It's good to know your mechanic was looking before he jacked the motor up.

Hmmmm. So I should swap to the yellow MM's before I get Maggie installed? UGH.

Thanks, Tom. Yeah, he does some work for Den_93 (they go way back), and is a good, conscientious guy. He's already done the FW and slave ... says it runs fine so he did that okay. I'm picking up the car on Wednesday and will look at the wiper assembly with him. Gotta take it back to him in August some time to finish everything.

Might not be a bad idea.

PM Mick, he bought his car new with the Maggie on it. He's had the MMs done a few times.

Re: UUC Motor Mount Install Ques for Maggie-Equipped Cars

The engine should only have to be lifted 1-1/2" max to get the mounts in. It is actually closer to 1" but the extra 1/2" will give some wiggle room.

You must've put butter on yours, cuz there's no way I could've gotten mine out with that little amount of room.

Did you remove the stud that goes through the frame rail(female torx bit needed) after removing the nut? The only thing you need to clear is the dowel on the bottom of the lower aluminum pad which is about an inch long.
