If I am reading those instructions correctly, they do not actually call for raising the engine, rather they say to raise/lift the car and support the engine with a block and jack under the oil pan. They do indicate that the passenger side requires the removal of the starter, which in turn requires the removal of the catalytic converter. Do you really have to remove the starter and/or cat? |

You'd need to support the car. Support the motor. Support and lower the cradle. Does that sound right???

Does that sound right??? | I don't understand the cradle approach - that diagram comes from the oil pan replacement instructions. But the literal reading of the Service Manual (subject to check) says you support the car, presumably on jack stands, and then support the engine using a jack and wood block under the oil pan and then start unbolting things. It is silent on lifting the engine - can this be right? |

That's just two more bolts and another thing you are going to need to support. Since you are already supporting the engine with a jack why not just jack it up a couple times and put the mounts in? That way you can leave the sub-frame bolts alone and everything can be done on ramps if need be.
The sub-frame approcah just seems like adding a couple more steps that aren't required. |

It will make it a little easier. I put the UUC's in and took them out with the starter in place so I know it can be done. As for the exhaust, I had my headers removed already so I really can't comment other than to say one guy that purchased my mounts installed them with headers still in place. Personally, I would just remove the manifolds/headers because the extra time spent trying to maneuver around them and get to all the bolts would not be worth it. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
