    Super-V

I just spoke with someone who claims that they are working on the new LS7 engine. They claim that they are putting this engine in the Super-V but it will have 475 hp instead of the 600 hp originally mentioned.

Has anyone heard anything else about this?

    crashinv,

I had heard since last year that the LS7 would have 500 hp.

But a couple of months ago everybody started talking about 600 hp.
    And possibley supercharging.

I also heard around that same time that they were having a hard time keeping the motors together and that they would be dropped back to 480 hp.

I am starting to think that the 600 hp figure was incorrect.
At least in NA mode. I can't seee the CTS chassis handling 600 hp.

Maybe the Corvette Blue Devil, but not the CTS.

The CTS chassis is definately good for 600hp. Check out Lund's 1100hp beast for example...
Or do you mean driveline? That would definately need to be beefed up...

Also remember that they won't allow us to surpass the 'Vette's performance, so we need to hope that even the Blue Devil makes it to market...

    Re: Super-V

Even the "spy" articles have retracted the 600hp claims and now quote 475-500hp.
    http://www.thecarconnection.com/inde...8&article=7121

The LS7 is supposedly going to have 475hp +/- (not 500... even the guys on the vette forums are beginning to accept that)

I doubt they are going to put a brand new engine into two completely different product lines... so if the C6 Z06 get the motor in 2006...
    My theory: 2007 CTS will have a "470hp" LS7...

Not really, GM is debuting the LS2 in the 2005 Vette, 2005 SSR and 2005 GTO all at the same time.

What can the LS2 put out, I know the GTO will have a 400hp version but can it be tweaked far beyond that? The torque curve on it was looking nice.

Hmm... good point... has that been confirmed by GM... or it is still a strong rumor?

    Re: Super-V

i can't imagine gm would put out the vette, ssr, and the gto with the same hp. so i would guess the vette's will be tweaked a little more. they know where the biggest following is.

Dreamin' i think you're right. the cts probably won't get the big engine until a year after the vette. they probably won't want to put they're top engine in the vette and cts at the same time. they don't want people to think it's a vette with a cadillac engine.

SSR is confirmed. The press release regarding the GTO was on the GM media relations website, but they pulled it when they realized it was on the public internet. So I think it's beyond strong rumor. FWIW the GTO press release quoted 400hp too.

I'm rather hacked that the GTO is getting the LS2 and the CTS-V is keeping the LS6. Looking at the torque curves the LS2 is the better engine.

From the looks of it, it's pretty much just an Ls6 with a larger bore. I haven't seen the cam specs but the speculation on CorvetteForum is that either GM is sandbagging or it has a realy conservative cam. As far as potential goes, I imagine it will be similar or better than the LS6 once the aftermarket matures...which may take a couple of years. Hard to say but since it's more of an evolution of the LSx line I wouldn't think the aftermarket R&D would be that difficult.

The LS2 heads, cam and intake will bolt right on to a LS6.

The LS2 has ALOT more low end and top end torque than the LS6. I saw a dyno comparison that has the LS2 at like 425 ft lbs.

The LS2 is nice, but how much more power do we need compared to the other 99.9% of the cars on the road? :coolgleam

that's a good point. i want as much hp as i can get, but at the same time, you get to a point where to have more hp than you can use. of course, it's nice to have all that extra hp but sometimes you might be better off without it.
