Re: Exhaust... which way do i go??

Well you guys convinced me to get the B&B exhaust. Thanks for your input. Now I need to figure out whether to get it with the resonators or the X-pipe. How much of a difference are we talking? I don’t want it ridiculously loud but I don’t want to be disappointed with the resonators if they quiet it down too much. I’ve watched all the videos I could find but I can’t imagine hearing it through a camera is the same as hearing it for yourself. Just looking for suggestions. Thanks again!

Re: Exhaust... which way do i go??

Get both.

No kidding.

Swapping out the resonator with the X pipe is not a big deal, and even less if you have it with the connectors to "bolt" up when you want to be obnoxious, or after you get the "fix-it" ticket.

Re: Exhaust... which way do i go??

I have both too. Like heavy said, it's very easy to change em out back and forth.

Xpipe = more HP/more noise.

Resonator = more subdued, but you can tell it's not stock, downside a little less HP than xpipe.

Sounds like if you don't want it really loud, go with resonator. You won't be disappointed either way. They both sound GREAT

Re: Exhaust... which way do i go??

I have the Corsa exhaust and would like to change out the resonators for an x-pipe. What would be my best option and where could I get one? Thanks in advance.

Re: Exhaust... which way do i go??

Cheapest way I found was:

http://www.jegs.com/p/JEGS/1130498/10002/-1

Use the 2.5 inch one on a CORSA.

You may have to have a muffler shop connect it.

I would use a hacksaw and get connectors fabbed if needed.

Not aware of any proven gains with any exhaust/catback setup that I've seen anywhere. I'll admit I'm wrong when someone posts a pre/post exhaust install dyno sheet done on the same day and at the same dyno.

Xpipe is good for noise for sure.

Re: Exhaust... which way do i go??

I love, "which exhaust is best" threads...

Does it shock anyone that the answer is always the same system that they have?

I have Zoomers and it's a fine system. I'd consider buying Corsa, and, perhaps, B&B in a heartbeat though. The B&Bs I've heard (it has been several), however, have NOT been loud, which is in direct conflict with what many have said. I remain confused...wrong setup I suppose.

Personally, I wouldn't purchase a Magnaflow. Many reviews I've read suggest a less than high-quality build and the sound is way too tame for me. This is NOT, however, meant to be insulting in any way to those that purchased one. It's good bang-for-your-buck.

You will gain HP (minimal yes but still gain) with a catback system. It's when you add the headers/tune on top of the catback.....then it opens up a whole new ballgame. Oh and last time I checked, 3" flows more than 2.5"

Not shocking at all. Because that's why we bought our particular brand.....cuz we like em!

Re: Exhaust... which way do i go??

I have a B&B catback I would sell for $800 + actual shipping. Just too lazy to clean it up and put it in a box and list it in the classifieds.

This is the touring exhaust with 2.5 resonator. It has the 3" mufflers.

You could call B&B and get new x-pipe and the pipes to connect to the manifolds and swap out any time you want loud and proud.

This way you would have both for about the same price as picking one...

If your interested PM me your email address and I will click some pics.

I don't know mate. Most aftermarket catbacks retain stock 2.5 piping (B&B being a notable exception here). Bigger piping may also result in loss unless you're force-feeding more air. True enough you do get more flow without a resonator, better mufflers and an xpipe.

I will still reserve judgment on actual gains. Not saying it's a bad investment here just don't want people to be misled that as some manufacturers claim, they'll gain 20hp+ just with a catback because I've yet to see someone put this theory to the test.

I didn't want to start a new thread for this. Is doing just mufflers and tips not common, or a bad idea? Thanks again!

It's common for people to hack up the stock ehaust and replace pieces of it.

Some people remove the inside of the stock mufflers, some replace the resonator with an x-pipe, some just pull the mufflers and go straight pipes.

You can't really go wrong for the most part, and can end up with a decent system for a lot less money if you re-use parts of the stock exhaust. It's not a bad system, it just doesn't sound very aggressive.

If I didn't find a used magnaflow for $400, I probably would have went with a modified stock system.

My best advice though, is to spend $$$ on headers and throw some magnaflow mufflers on the stock exhaust.
