I just installed the Katech short shifter, Lindsay uerathane bushings, and the CAGS eliminator. The V finally shifts like a car, not a Mac truck. Also got my 1-2 shift back. I leased this car I hope I dont get hammered for the short shifter when I return it. I almost want to buy a proper flywheel but it seems like too much work and money for a glorified rental. Any thoughts?
The Katech unit requires you to thread the original shifter correct? It seems that this unit is a reasonable cost compared to UUC but less noise than a B&M.
I'd considered MOMO, but their shift knobs had an internal diameter which was too small (.60"). You can take a look at ISOTTA shift knobs at http://www.isotta.com. They make a variety of shift knobs with an internal diameter of 5/8". I can't say how many threads per inch they are however.
i got my katech but according to the instruction i must remove exhaust and driveshaft, i also have CS bushings. is all that necessary for a short shifter cause ill just get the trans mount but i don't want that yet if its not needed
I can get up in there and do my shifter without touching the exhaust. Granted I B&B 3 " and not the one piece stock unit. Actually just had mine out this weekend to fix it up a bit.
I didn't need to drop either. It just makes the whole thing more time consuming. If you do drop the DS make sure you mark it with a marker and put it back the right way.
Did my shifter three weeks ago, no drive shaft or exhaust removal. put the car on stands in the front and get under and up close with it. no problems at all. You will need a second set of hands inside the car to help tighten the bolts.
