New Transmission

Remove this ad
Well I just got a call from my service advisor and they are ordering me a brand new T-56.

1st and R were doing the normal PITA stuff but as I posted in another long lost thread, 2nd gear was occasionally popping out when I let out on the clutch. The car does have close to 66,000 miles on it.

He said that the clutch and pressure plate may also be shot and he is going to have to talk to the service manager to see whats covered since this is most likely a "wear" item.

Funny thing is 2 weeks ago I had it at another dealer and of course they"could not replicate" and never even pulled the tranny. Jackasses.

So anyone know what the clutch and pressure plate are gonna cost me if I have to end up paying?

Glad this is taken care of now instead of in 2 weeks when Maggie makes her appearence.

Re: New Transmission

Let me know how this goes. I am currently waiting on a tranny for my V. They are not showing any in stock, so says my dealer. I have been waiting for 2 1/2 weeks, with no estimated arrival time. I am in Springfield, ill and he said there were none in the midwest, it would have to come from the east or west coast by truck.

Re: New Transmission

Will do.

How hard is the clutch/pressure plate install if I do it myself?

What should I expect to pay for the parts?

Re: New Transmission

I would get the place repairing the thing to do the clutch and I am sure they will be reasonable.

There shouldn't be a hugh upcharge.

Re: New Transmission

If they already have the whole tranny out you might as well get a LS7 clutch kit to hold the extra HP Miss Maggie is going to land you. I am sure they will charge very little because the transmission is already dropped.

If you were having the clutch/pressure plate done as a stand-alone repair you would expect to pay roughly $700 for parts and about 7 hours of labor. At my dealer that translated into $1,400 a year ago.

Re: New Transmission

I think there is a TSB or something on the clutch. My dealer replaced mine at around 77,000 miles and it was covered under my Cert. Used warranty. Worth looking into.

My car is currently at the dealer with the tranny out. Last dealer I went to wouldn't work on it cause I had !CAGS. Went back to my home dealer (sans skip shift eliminator) and they are tearing it apart now. I was hoping it would need a new tranny but after reading "2 1/2 weeks" in your post... I think I would prefer a rebuild!

Re: New Transmission

Jay was the one that said something about the 2 1/2 weeks but I got the call today "we cant locate any transmissions in the area so it will be a national search". Yeah great. In the mean time Im pimpin a base model Cobalt POS. Im thinking a rebuild with new forks (Viper ones) and syncros should do the job but if they want to install a new one Im not gonna argue.

If you can, would you perhaps get the TSB number on that clutch thing? It could be of great help. Will or Luke, do you know anything about it?

The biggest PITA about all of this is that my Maggie isntall is scheduled for the 23rd and Im just hopeing that the tranny and clutch get installed before then.

Re: New Transmission

Funny, my car sits at a dealer right now with the tranny in repair. They are starting with the reverse lockout soleniod and plunger. The other items, trouble getting into 1st and reverse will be looked at after reverse lockout fixed.
You may want to do the z06 clutch, flywheel and slave replacement while they are all apart. The cost for all of this through Luke is rumored to be less than 675 for the parts as needed. There should not be much in labor extra, since all that is different is the flywheel and replacing the slave (some extra work needed to bevel case).
If my trans is bad I hate to be that far behind in the waiting list!

Good Luck!
Sorry didn't see your other thread.

Re: New Transmission

Crap! Cobalt? Hope the service at that dealer is good! I usually get a Cadi for a loaner. This time I am in a Saturn Vue (with 750 miles on it). Not a CTS but it isn't a Chevy either.

I don't have the TSB #. Not even sure it was a TSB. All I know is I took it in for a radiator TSB and they called and said the clutch was bad and covered under warranty. I would call Luke or Will and ask them what they know.

GL on the Maggie install!

Re: New Transmission

Thanks. Yeah Im in a Cobalt because they are a Chevy/Cadi dealer and the Enterprise they use is required to use one of those and of course this one doesnt carry any Cadis so here I sit. I talked to the guy at Enterprise yesterday and voiced my displeasure and he said he would get me something else. I know they have Auras which is what i want but Ive got a feeling its going to be a Malibu.

I always get a CTS or DTS to drive as a loaner, but I feel for you man. While my maggie was getting shipped out to Magnuson for the rebuilding I had to drive a red PT Cruiser. I would have rather been in a Cobalt. I had to wear sunglasses and a hat even at night so no one would recognize me.

On the upside it makes getting your V back waaaaaaay better after driving a pos for several days.

Well there is still a search going on mine. I was on the phone today with a VERY trusted person on this site with access to the information that also did a search for me that came back with ZERO available T-56's in the Cadillac parts inventory. He told me to get the SPAC number (national search #) from my parts department and to start on my end with the customer service department at the national level so I will probably start with that on Monday.

Meanwhile I am still stuck in a Cobalt because apparently every Cadi in the Enterprise fleet has been picked up for Ryder Cup traffic so my search for a better ride for the next who knows how long continues.

Good luck, keep me up to date if you hear anything with yours.
