Anyone have the shifter come off going from 1st to second?

I was leaving the stop light with a BMW 335, and I pulled the shifter down into second, when the knob and shaft came straight up at me. I lobbed it into third, and got off it and rolled to the next light. I pressed back down on it, and it popped back down onto the shaft and snapped back in place. Do I have a loose screw, or is this something I have to live with until I get a different shifter?

The shaft didn't come out too, right? Just the knob and boot? You probably just pulled up on it when you shifted. It will pop off pretty easily in 2nd. I think thats waht gear I put it in when I pulled mine off for the UUC shifter upgrade. <- worth the $$

Yea sounds like you just jerked off the knob (hahaha) If you had some bolts loose i dont think it would have popped back in, and doubt you could have gotten into 3rd.

There's a service bulletin for this on 2004 to 2006 CTS-V's. The shifter and the knob need to be replaced.

Of course this would be a perfect opportunity to get a new shifter...

That's really awesome that GM is coming out with these service bulletins AFTER most people are coming out of warranty!!

But he's right....great excuse to go with the UUC shifter/bushings. Call Luke at Lindsay and he'll hook you up!

Re: Anyone have the shifter come off going from 1st to second?

I must shift like Reed. I grab a hand full and wale it into second. I just read on the FAQ that this happens when you don't have a golden touch when shifting.

That is my next goal is the UUC shifter, and I might have to go to Cadillac next week and see if they will put it in if I buy it. I've been dealing with Sewell Dallas, and they have been wonderful to work with so far.

And yes, I took him, but those 335's are very quick off the line. I caught him in 2nd gear and was walking away in 3rd when I decided I'd better see what happened to my shifter and let off. I really do believe the 335's are underrated at 300 HP.

    Thanks for the help guys.

Not sure if you can still get the B&M, but after feeling 2 B&M's against my UUC, i think i prefer the B&M. Buy a B&M and i'll trade you my UUC! I'll even install it for ya!

Why do you say you prefer the B&M over the UUC? Most optinions seem to lean toward the UUC.
