04 with 33K miles- bought with 28K- had original rear. I never wheel hopped it or all out drag launched but it had whine at speed in any gear as you bounced the throttle slightly. They replaced no questions about a month ago. I assume with an 06+ rear. Whine is gone and I want to keep it that way!....hahaha we'll see.. I also got mounts so enjoying both for a while before I start having fun and wearing them out again- the mounts that is.

Re: How many V-owners have NOT had problems with their rear differential?

65,XXX miles. Handful of 1/4 mile passes. Plenty of hard launches (always from idle or less than 2k) on the street and 2nd gear rips and not so much as a peep or a drop of fluid leaked. I dont even wheel hop as much as I did 30k miles ago and Im running all season BFGs at 37psi.

Knock on wood.

Re: How many V-owners have NOT had problems with their rear differential?

41k miles and the last 6k with a maggie on my '04 and original diff. No hard launches but lots of full throttle in all gears. Wheel hop twice.

Re: How many V-owners have NOT had problems with their rear differential?

I think a lot of the problems were wheel hop but also the seals leaking. There is hardly any fluid in our diff anyway. Add a leaky pinion seal and a leaky driver side axle seal and it doesn't take much to loose that 1.5 or so qts of oil.I had a new diff less than a year ago because of the whine. Both the pinion seal and the driverside axle seal are leaking. I have replaced the pinion seal but haven't had a chance to get the axle seal in yet. But its higher than the pinion so I'm not as worried about it as the pinion.

Just making sure the diff has the proper amount of oil in will help a lot! I drive my car very very hard. I dont try to get it to hop but sometime is hops pretty good. I have rolled backwards just a few miles an hour and than droped the clutch in first and as soon as they start to spin, grab second and spin all the way through second until they hook. I have done about anything you can imagine to that car and still no whine or anything. I think the main key is the proper amount of oil and good clean oil.

Re: How many V-owners have NOT had problems with their rear differential?

16,000 miles and my original diff was whining a little. That was until I got my B&B x-pipe and I don't hear the diff now. I launch hard and try not to make it hop.

I do have some weapage coming out of the diff sometwhere. It is gradually coating the entire side but isn't enough to drip. I still have a year of warranty left, so I will wait until it breaks.

The Harley dealer has 3 leak levels from worst to least. Leakage, seapage, weapage.

Re: How many V-owners have NOT had problems with their rear differential?

'04 with 48,000 miles and just now starting to get a pretty good whine at 45mph. It's going to the dealer when I get back to the States in about a month.

Re: How many V-owners have NOT had problems with their rear differential?

Re: How many V-owners have NOT had problems with their rear differential?

70,000+ miles on my 05 V. I only had it since May, but there is no record of a diff replacement. Had the rear pinion seal replaced on recall when I bought it. Id assume they replace the fluid at that time. I had it hop a few times pretty hard, but I won't induce hard hop anymore because it makes me cry. I sure would love a REAL hop fix! Makes me miss my Camaro. Almost as fast, but way more fun to abuse. Oh well, I love my kids.

Re: How many V-owners have NOT had problems with their rear differential?

' 04 with 46k and original diff. No leaks. The diff, and the rest of the drive train has an incredible amount of slack/backlash...the famous clunk is audible over the Corsas by nearby pedestrians...especially when my 16 year old with a brand new permit is out practicing. Between the trans, driveshaft support, and diff, I've got to do something.
I replaced the front diff mount bushing with a Delrin one...holds the diff firm, but I don't recommend it due to the transfer of pinion whine into the cabin....no noticeable whine with the stock bushing...until it self destructed.
No dragstrip or autocross here. Just a DD I drive hard year round.

Still have wheel hop city even after installing the Kars III.

Is that the original KARS III or the new one that csp3000 is selling?

Re: How many V-owners have NOT had problems with their rear differential?

'04, 36K, original diff., no problem to date, no hole shots, only do WOT when already rolling. Wheel hop apparent during 1st-2nd speed shift at high rpm.
