Hey just curious.... I havent had problems and there is no whine what-so-ever

I do not have a warrenty

should I wait until it whines then just buy the powertrain and maybe get lucky and never have a problem????

BTW i only will be putting 5-8000 miles a year on it

Re: How many V-owners have NOT had problems with their rear differential?

Been beating the hell out of my 06 rear for over one year now at the dragstrip. No issues, no whine. I change the diff fluid every oil change, and I also have the BMR antiwheel hop setup. Only noise I get is the extra roadnoise from the BMR setup.

But one thing, I also have an extra 07 rear diff in the garage as a spare that I bought at the local salvage yard for 600 bucks with 4300 miles on it. I still got warranty though.

Re: How many V-owners have NOT had problems with their rear differential?

my car has 14k miles and it is on 2nd diff. First owner did the warranty work done in CT and Lindsay redid it last week. Now it is once again back in shop to check again.

2004 50K miles no problem so far. Of course avoiding drag strip starts and the massive wheel hop problem.

Exclamation Re: How many V-owners have NOT had problems with their rear differential?

I have an 07 and after 4 months I started noticing a near the rear differential. I took it in and here is what ha happened:

1) brought it in and was told they couldnt see a leak.
2) 35 minutes after I picked it up it started to leak.
3) Brought it back in and had the vent kit installed and pinion seal replaced under recall.
4) picked it up and brought it home. Leak was 3 times as bad.
5) brought it back and was told by mechanic that he was going to replace differential and that when he called GM he was told that they weren't exactly sure what is causing it.
6) drove it 7 miles home and parked it because the weather was bad... Still leaking fluid.

Does anybody have any ideas on how to correct this or just some advice? After owning BMW's for 10 years I drove a friends V and was impressed by the power/ price point. I am beginning to regret that I didn't pony up and buy the M5......

sounds like your tech/dealer doesn't know what they're doing.

Re: How many V-owners have NOT had problems with their rear differential?

Agreed. Sounds like you may need to find another dealer.

Re: How many V-owners have NOT had problems with their rear differential?

this is the second dealer I've been to... it seems to me they did everything they could and it still isn't right. After reading all of the posts on this forum I find it hard that anyone could disagree that the diff can't handle the power. The cars has 3200 miles on it and was broken in properly... it has a brand new diff in it and still leaks.. open to ideas.. I think saying that the tech' dealer isnt good is BS.

Re: How many V-owners have NOT had problems with their rear differential?

I think saying that they can't find the leak and that they have good technicians could be BS as well.

We all know the Diff's weren't designed to handle the HP properly and the car has wheel hop problems but mine is no longer stock and the rear is still quiet. I brought my car in for a leak and it turned out to be that vent mod. once they installed that I have had no problems with mine.

Now I change out the fluid about once every 7,500 and I have changed to the AMSOIL fluid. I don't want to get into an argument about which fluid is better because I really don't know. The only thing I can tell you is when I changed the fluid the first time at about 6K I found a lot of what looked like clutch material in the fluid. This abrasive material cannot be good on the internals so it is a good idea to change the fluid more often then the factory recommends.

besides, unless the case has split open the leaks should have nothing to do with the power that the Diff can handle. It would mean there is a seal problem or a leak in the drain plug for example. This is all repairable even on our Diff's so I don't understand why you don't think it could be a technician problem.

I can guarantee that Lindsay would fix this right the first time and it would be better then from the factory. Bummer is I am on the other side of the US so I hope I don't need them and I don't know where your located but I assume it's no where close either.

My post was not meant to insult you or your car and I apologize if I offended you. - Good luck with your leak.

Re: How many V-owners have NOT had problems with their rear differential?

no offense taken... the first dealer didnt see the leak.. the second dealer came highly recommended as well as the technician. He has changed diffs on another ctsv and I have no reason to believe he isnt competent.

Re: How many V-owners have NOT had problems with their rear differential?

Can you tell where the leak is coming from? I assume your in snow country so getting underneath the car is probably really miserable.

I sure hope they can fix this for you becuase if you turn to an M5 I'm sure you would enjoy the car but something about the V is just intoxicating. With that said I really like the car much more with the mods I currently have installed. The headers, shifter, flywheel, sway bars, cat back, tune,.... really transformed the feel of the car, not refined but much more beast like yet the cops still don't give me a second glance.

Re: How many V-owners have NOT had problems with their rear differential?

06 with approx 26K on it. Original diff with no leaks and no whines.

I drive pretty aggressive but like others, I don't do any big burn outs etc...

Re: How many V-owners have NOT had problems with their rear differential?

CTSV_ROB: There was a pic of the leak that another forum member downloaded that looks just like mine. It started off on the left side of diff and after they added the vent kit the leak went to the right. The tech told me the kit is on the right so it makes sense to me that the leak is probably from the vent. I will take a pic tomorrow and post. I love driving the car and agree that it is intoxicating! I hope they can finally figure it because that new 09 looks mean. My lease will be up right around the time they should have the bugs out of it!

Wicked_V: I drive mine aggressive too but not like an idiot.I only had 3400 on my old diff and about 7 on the new one. i'm gonna keep my fingers crossed and hope that they fix it this time. I broke it in exactly ow they told me. I treat all of my cars/ harleys the same.. break em in slow, ride em hard, and maintain the heck out of them!

By the way, this forum ROCKS! It's nice to go to the dealer with a little info under your belt and you certainly get it here.

Re: How many V-owners have NOT had problems with their rear differential?

I have 4, the orginal owner must have destroyed the car before trading it in, so that was the first one. And one because of an accident. and 2 because the dealership just assumed that was the issue. No asking, they just did it.
