Well the other night I was showing a honda civic whats what, and i step on it in 2nd at about 35 mph, about half a second later i hear CRACK and then click click click click click click....Turns out A piece of my gasket blew apart so it was flapping around in the header making the click sound. The dealerships performance guy is putting a new gasket in from kooks tom but I wanted to know if this happened to anyone else |

Mine has clicked since the first day I put them on, and it drives me nuts (short trip ). Were these the carbon gaskets included with the headers, or did you use different ones?

When I got the Kooks Headers The Flange that attaches to the head was about .04" out of flat. When I contacted Kooks they said that was in spec and don't bother me (Added the last part but that was the way they treated me).
When I received the B&B headers the flange was straight and the gaskets I used smashed nicely and I have not had this problem.
I would check to make sure the header flange is flat and if it is then switch to the re-usabe Aluminum gasket (The one on the Faq) and you shouldn't have this problem anymore. If not flat then get it to a machine shop to get it at least within .02".

So far, he's been right!
BTW, my penis has received many compliments through the years. I must admit, darn thing hasn't always been too smart, though.

I used the stock gaskets, the metal ones that were with the manifolds that were stock, I ahve never had a problem, my experience with after market header gaskets are not good. |

I want to take a shot at seeing if my car can pass emissions testing.

I've used them in the past on different motors and found them to be a good solution when I keep blowing the fiber gaskets.
I'll add that they are a one shot deal. They have a crush seal and if you install them and they leak you're SOL. Kind of expensive.

I used the Percy's Seal4Good dead-soft aluminum exhaust manifold/header gaskets were used, part number 66032.
They work well and can probably even compensate for the poor flatness on the Kooks Headers. I may bad mouth the headers but they are designed well and I'm sure they flow better then mine. I was just dissapointed with the quality control so what this means is they required more work to get them installed properly. If I were to keep the set I had I would have surfaced the flange and flanged the collector end.
These gaskets worked well for me but I torqued them twice. Once when installed then again after about 5 heat cycles. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
