UPS tracking shows the Magnaflows arriving tomorrow, so hopefully I'll have them installed tomorrow night or Thursday- then we'll know if it's the canisters for sure. If not, my expensive scavenger hunt for this noise will continue.
It's definately the canisters. We should be able to get them replaced by Corsa. As long as you are the original purchaser, they have a lifetime guarantee on their systems.

Re: Anyone had this happen with their KOOKS headers?

I know, but what's the point of getting canisters that are noisy with headers replaced with identical canisters that make noise with headers? RangerRob's video is a brand new Corsa system, and it rattles. I don't think ours are defective, it's just the RSC baffles make crappy noises with headers.

This is just my opinion, but the fact that every Corsa I've heard in person has that raspy clatter on decel doesn't make me too hopeful that replacements will fix anything.

I got two hours logged of 6K rpms plus road course driving this weekend on stock, used gaskets without a whisper of leakage.

Actually, the exhaust has been on the car since it was sold to the 1st owner in 2005. The headers are brand new. I took the video a few days after the headers were put on. It only had 15k miles on it last year, i doubled that number up within a year of owning the car. I'm still waiting for Corsa to call me back, I'd hate to have to go through warranty, but then again, maybe i'd get an entirely new corsa catback??? it'd be nice to get a fix asap

Re: Anyone had this happen with their KOOKS headers?

Corsa is being very generous in working with me to fix the noise- I'm sending them my receipt for the catback and they're sending a new center resonator (I had cracked welds that I repaired, but they suspect that's still the problem). I'll try replacing the resonator first, and if that doesn't work then we'll move on to the mufflers. If all else fails, I've got the Magnaflow mufflers as a last resort.

Will update.

FYI, I've had 2 resonators. Problem did not change when I installed the 2nd one, it was still there. It's in the cans.

Re: Anyone had this happen with their KOOKS headers?

I suspected the same thing, and plan on verifying it tonight. I'm going to strap a PC microphone hooked up to my laptop under the car near the resonator and record a few runs, then move it near the cans and repeat. If the noise is louder near the cans, I'll request mufflers first.

Thanks for keeping active in this thread and providing feedback, Chris.

Werd.

The Corsa system is great, it sounds awesome, and has zippy drone, which is worth the cost. If we can only lick the 'rattle' it will be damn near perfect

I almost wrapped a bunch of 'muffler-weld' tape around my cans, so they wouldn't resonate with the vibration, but I couldn't bring myself to it.

Gee, that sound clip sounded a lot like my son's Cavalier when he spun a rod bearing. I think I'll keep my stock exhaust.

Let's not get carried away here, Albertan. The Corsas sound awesome, there's just an annoying rattle on decel.

Re: Anyone had this happen with their KOOKS headers?

I got the car up on a lift last night and listened while someone revved the engine- there's a definitely lot of clatter coming from the canisters, but I hear it at the resonators too. While I know it's possible for the sound to carry from the resonator and be heard coming out the mufflers, I don't think noise from the muffler could travel upstream and be heard in the resonator, so it's possible that my resonator is bad (remember that I had broken welds that I fixed).

I'll let Corsa send me the resonator first, then try the canisters. I'm wishing right now that I hadn't welded everything together, as this would be a hell of a lot easier if I could just unhook some clamps and take off parts until the noise goes away. Would either of you guys (Chris or Rob) be willing to try taking off your mufflers and seeing what happens? It's just two Torca clamps.

Re: Anyone had this happen with their KOOKS headers?

I would if I had a jack, tools, and a garage... i'm SOL, i'll try to take a look under it when if I'm sober this weekend and try to unclamp them and see if its coming solely from the resonators... the bday is today and i'm getting plastered!

Re: Anyone had this happen with their KOOKS headers?

Have fun getting plastered!

There's not much to undoing the mufflers- just two rubber hangers that you can twist off using a screwdriver as leverage and a Torca clamp. If mine weren't welded together I'd just unhook the mufflers to see if it goes away, but that's obviously a little difficult now.
