Didn't have the bucks to Jet-Hot coat them when I bought ... wish I had, now, so things would be a bit cooler under there. I'd encourage anyone to do so if they're buying Kooks (or any header).

I'm sick of the "Wet Towel" noise under WOT, and I'm determined to find it. Kooks obviously has no interest in helping- they've logged on to the forum many times since I sent multiple PMs, yet have not replied. I ordered a set of OEM gaskets yesterday and I'm going to try stacking them behind the Percy's Aluminum gaskets (toward the heads, not the flange) to see if it helps.
I'm going to check the trueness of the flanges while I've got the headers off, and if they're not flat I'll escalate my contact with Kooks to a phone call. The gaskets won't be here until next week, so I'll report back when they're on.

They have never been so quite and have stayed quite for 1000+ miles so far.
Now I just need to solve the dead battery issue!!

They were re-torqued to 18ftlbs after 500 miles. I love the sound of the headers but HATE the sound of the valve train that got amplified 10x by putting these things on! Does anyone know how to quiet down the valve train a little? Roller rockers?

Got my OEM gaskets today- turns out that the part # for them has been replaced twice in computer, which is usually indicative of a redesign. They sure look different than the ones that came off the stock manifolds, that's for sure. Hopefully they'll be installed tonight and this friggin' noise will be gone- I'll report back for all you fellow Kooks owners suffering the "flap" noise under WOT. |

So you guys think I should ditch the Percy's and get stock gaskets? It really doesn't sound like an exhaust leak..but I guess if thats common maybe it is! |

Felpro also makes a very good gasket.

Thats what I have on, the Percy's dead softs, the header flanges were also flat straight from Kooks.....I guess my real questions is how I can quiet down the valve train a little bit? |

I don't seem to have a problem with the noise but maybe it just doesn't bother me. |

I'll post one as soon as it stops raining. Brent at EPP agreed with me that it isn't an exhaust leak, so hopefully you guys can help me! |

Sounds more like a squirrel fight or something...
Hard to describe.
We are putting OE gaskets in place of the leakers we have.
Put a bit of blue loctite on the bolts before you put them in, let it dry out a bit (10-15 minutes) then put the bolts in and torque them to 18 lb. ft. from the center out. This should hold them just fine.
I think the OE gaskets should hold up okay, we have only been using them as replacements for the Kooks for a month or so.
I think Luke called Kooks and they recommended the OE gaskets to us.
Maybe because they thought we'd have them in stock?
Takes a couple hours, not too bad.

OE gaskets were installed and the sound didn't change at all. Now I'm thinking it might be rattling in the Corsa canisters from the different exhaust frequency caused by the headers. *sigh* These damn headers have almost become more trouble than enjoyment. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
