More of a nusiance than a real problem. However, I hate an exhaust leak because it sounds like crap so I fix 'em.

I was told the round connectors on the kooks leak and it's best to get them welded on, wonder if this is the leak?! May get it welded tomorrow and see if that helps. Also been having the engine light come on and off occasionally, could a leak also cause this if it's before the O2 sensors? |

Might check Scoggin and Dickey for a "proper" forged short block. For a little more than that amount, you can move up to 408 or possibly even a 427 don't ya know! Still cheaper than possibly doing it again with another stocker - As they say in ol Mexico, "If you're going to play with the Bull - you have to be prepared to take the Horn!" Or as they say north of the Border, "The tuition to the School of Experience is subject to increase without prior notice!" Sorry the tuition bill has come in. |

I'm really sitting on the fence b/c whose to say there aren't a couple more pistons about to blow? I am already getting an ear full from the wife. I couldn't imagine trying to tell her 3 months later we have to fix it again .

-Sean | They can only void the warranty for the pieces related to the engine. They CAN'T void the "whole" warranty. If they try to tell you that crap tell them they can speak to your lawyer...even if you don't have one.

pm me for more creative ideas...trust me, I have plenty! | An update on the CZ exchange, and a bad one at that. Mission failed miserably, as too many scotches before bedtime, attempted the switch, jammed toe on wifey's nightstand, screamed bloody murder, wifey noticed gear lube on ring finger and ring missing, she got pissed, cut out the crotch section of all my boxers and cancelled my subscription to GM High Tech Performance. It has not been a good day, and excuse me while I go and change out another load of laundry. Changing out the wife for a less costlier version would be the obvious remedy for affording more mods, but she knows some really good lawyers who would leave me living in the local park and taking the bus to work. |

Curious as to what piston let go, more then likely it was #7, it is prone to a lean condition and then on top of it not being forged it will let go. Do you have a fuel press gauge in the car? Just thinking that even if you buy a proper stroker for the car you should install a fuel press gauge to assure your self that you are getting fuel. What about a wideband, are you using it along with your tunning software? Only reason I ask the questions is I had #7 and #8 piston let go on me with about 9lbs of boost and 6500rpm, it was very ugly and it was a fuel issue. You can buy a stroker kit for it for around $3k and have some machine work done and balance for another $600. You do the install and get it back on the road. BTW did you get to look at the heads, did they take on some of the chunks? |

I didn't believe it then and still don't.
Good luck and I hope the welding takes care of it.

-Sean | That seems strange. I would think they have a legal obligation to inform you of exactly what they believe happened and to provide support for their conclusion. If they didn't, I would politely push as to why it isn't covered under warranty then. Bottom line is that they have to fix it under warranty unless they can *prove* an aftermarket part caused the failure.
My throttle body went out while I was out of town and I had to take it to a different dealership than I normally do. I suppose they wanted to make certain they wouldn't get stiffed with the bill, but they had the GM rep come take a look at it. He approved to have the throttle body fixed.
Why is that interesting? Because my car is far from stock, including a supercharger. Initially, the dealership had said that they wouldn't cover it under warranty. I immediately, politely, mind you, challanged them by asking, "Don't you have to prove that an aftermarket part caused the failure?" Dumbfounded, the service rep reluctantly agreed and said he would get back to me. Ultimately, I believe they knew that they had to "prove" that something I had caused the failure and that I was going to push them on that. Next thing I knew, the car was finished and covered under warranty.
Unfortunately, your situation is far more an expensive fix, so they might not "roll-over" as easy as they did in my situation. I do believe, however, that my modifications did NOT cause the failure. In your situation, I honestly just don't know. Perhaps it did, perhaps it didn't. The law, however, is the same in both cases--they must "prove" that your aftermarket modification caused the failure. If they can't, I'd say that they must honor the warranty.
$3,800 is an expensive tab. I'd say it would be worth your effort to make sure they dot their "I's" and cross their "T's." If you think you're being cheated, call an attorney. This is a situation where Prepaid Legal could come in handy.
