The only problem is that no matter how I adjust it it still vibrates on the little tiny crossmember that goes below it. Is that crossmember necessary or can I just remove it and not worry? I remember reading about this somewhere but no matter how hard I searched I couldn't find it.
Thanks!

In an earlier post I was told that it was not necessary. My virbration and noise comes from sharp turns, reverse, and when the car needs to be downshifted. I was going to do the adjustment and tightening tomorrow and take the bar off. It is a little embarrasing when everyone hears your exhaust and then you turn and screetch into the parking spot.
At least the smell is gone!!! |

It is just a bracket to keep the exhaust from falling away from the car. |

No, not there. | | | Re: Exhaust Vibration I SEARCHED Several years back, I had a set of race headers on a Miata blow the main collector weld. The entire ehxaust from the collector back pivoted down (mufflers pointing skyward, front pipe toward the ground) and get caught on the little "useless" cross bracket below the car. Had it not been there, I probably would have become the world's first Pole-Vaulting Miata (at worst), or at least had the whole rear of the car torn off when the pipe caught the pavement (at best).
Do what I did: Bend it down, but leave it installed.

Very noisy until I insisted the guy the section out, turn it over and put it back in. I think I had him leave the factory support off as well. |

no vibration
10k miles later.....still no vibration. |

| | Cadillac Owners Connoisseur | | | | | Re: Exhaust Vibration I SEARCHED Its been fine....Its a tar like substance, doesnt catch on fire. It does get a little softer when heated...but not enough to move from where Ive placed it. Im actually going to buy some more today...

If not bolted up tight, it does the same thing ... drives me crazy.
I have to loosen it up from one end to the other, jack it up against the bottom of the cabin, then tighten each clamp. If done right, it works great!
