| | Baddass V Lover | | Join Date: Jan 2005 Location: Newark, Ohio Age: 49 | | Details On The New Rear I'll give a complete description here and then projected final cost. - 3rd Generation Corvette Cast Iron Differential- This unit will be good for at least 600ftlbs ot Torque at the wheels. This is a completely new unit, casing, gears, posi-unit, bearings, rear HD cover. This also has oversized axle out put stubs, allowing the use of a much larger u-joint on the axle shafts going to the wheels.
- A One Piece Drivshaft, thus eliminating the silly flimsy wheel hop absorbing two piece factory unit. This obviously eliminates the carrier bearing, and all the clunky noises associated with it.
- HD U-Jointed 3" axle shaft tubes and the HD Joints that go with then, these joints are the size used on 1 Ton 4x4 Trucks. This eliminates the factory CV-Joint and skinny shaft setup completely, yes its a bit old school, but it works.
- Also, A Stage III Kit, with modified front mounting system, thus assuring a completely ridgid mounting system for the new diff.
I have taken and removed the weak link(s) in Our beloved Vs, the new diff, axles and driveshaft add a whole new level of piece of mind for the modified, and even aggressive V drivers amongst us.
This system is solidly mounted, thereby eliminating all the ridiculusly soft mounting points designed to halp absorb much of the out of control wheel hop issues, that of course only exist in the minds of V drivers. - Will this diminish the handling of the V? No, nothing I'm doing in this conversion, has any modification to the factory suspension, most I've met, love the ride and cornering ability of the V, just the weak rear setup along with the hop, has been a major turn-off.
- Will there be added noise? Actually, if your factory diff is whining, this should present its self quieter.
- Will the V now ride harsh? No, now My kit does stiffen the car up, helping to reduce body roll, and aiding in planting the tires to the ground, as well tightening the undercarriage up, putting you and the V in more direct contact with the road.
- Why on earth do You think I'd want to spend this much money on a car that I already spent this much money on? If you are asking that question, then you may not, but for those who drive aggressively, want to take their V to the track, Drag or Road Course, will find the peace of mind after this investment remarkable.
The basic setup, installed by Me, with all the above mentioned items included, is $5500.00.
The next step will be a $6000.00 Premium Package, this will add the auxilliary quad shock arrangement, attached to the lower control arm, and frame, thereby supporting the rebound weakness built into Oour factory shock/struts. This shock will have only minor compression, thus barely changing the softness of the ride, but will plant the rear tires into the ground, thereby eliminating the last of the suspension occillations causing the last bit of hop left.
Now, for anyone who wants to take their V into the 9 or even 8 sec qtr mile times, I can offer an bulletproof version of this setup, 12 bolts diff internals, etc..., this will add about $4000.00 to the premium version, please contact Me if you think you are ready for this.
Overview: I believe I'm offering a reasonably priced completely usable race level system you can drive daily with little to no change in the characteristics of the V. |

I would really like to completely eliminate the clunk! I don't have 5 grand for the entire set up but could do just the drive shaft. Thanks for all of your work on this. With every ones efforts well will finish the work GM should have done in the first place! |

The part that I think is misleading is Doug says that the dual shock system will eliminate whatever wheel hop is left but I think he would mean wheel skip! All it could do at that point, with his stage 3 kit, is skip and I would think that would be only under extreme conditions. I thought the shock system would make it bite harder and eliminate any 'skipping' left. Correct me if I am wrong here Doug! |

Maybe those of us interested here in California could order at once and ship together saving a little?

Kudos to you for working so hard on this. I hope you can get a patent for the design and keep the leeches from stealing your work. If I was a drag racer, I'd be all over this.
