Angry Annoying Dash Rattles

Remove this ad
Have picked up a very annoying, loud, rattle in my dash. Most noticable at 60+ mph highway speeds. Not really noticable at slower speeds. Appears to be coming from somewhere on the driver's side of the dash. Wondering if anyone else was running into this issue. Only have 14K miles on my 2005 V, started noticing around 7-8K miles.

Re: Annoying Dash Rattles

Something like that would drive me crazy so I would immediately bring it to the dealer and let them find it. I only had one rattle and it was my speed pass for the tolls on the windshield! If you have one of those in your car, check that because it sounded to me like it was coming from inside the dash as well and it was only one of the suction cups not sucking! Sound like a porno movie eh!?

also do a search on this site as this topic has been addressed many times. I believe there is a TSB on a dash rattle as well.

Re: Annoying Dash Rattles

I had an annoying squeak/rattle on mine and I ended up fixing it by lubing the rear hood hinge and haven't heard a thing yet.

Re: Annoying Dash Rattles

I had one of those half-squeak, half-rattle sounds coming from the stack (nav, A/C controls). Rather than go hunting, I cut a piece of black foam rubber and fitted it between the bottom of the stack and the top of the center console. Ahhh... quiet.

Re: Annoying Dash Rattles

lawfive-

I have got the same HVAC rattle/squeak think. What the heck is causing it. I have found only one other user who has it, and my dealer can't figure it out. It is a total friggin' mystery, but if you put presure on any of a dozen places on the stack you can stop it.

Any ideas on what is causing it?

Todd

Re: Annoying Dash Rattles

warranty will fix my rattles? hah nice.

mine i've noticed is more of a creaking/squeaking noise from the dash. that area right below the speedometer. if i press down on it it'll stop. it's like it's rubbing against something.

Re: Annoying Dash Rattles

putting foam tape in the seems (hidden) as the TSB suggests, helps.... taking the center piece (near the windshield) will reveal lots of rattle points...

My car is quiet now, but needed the tape to get that way...

Since most of the interior is press it lock connectors, you can press firmly on these panels and possibly reseat them if vibrations have made them loose...

Re: Annoying Dash Rattles

How thick should the tape be? I just started noticing the rattles in the dash now that the car is back to stock and like others have said, it’s driving me crazy.
