Car Alarm

Remove this ad
Had my car alarm go off last night at about 2:00 am. By the time I got down to the garage it had shut itself off. Unlocked the door with the key fob but then it would not lock for about two minutes. Anyone ever have this happen to them. Dont have any pets and no one was in the garage to mess with the car. This morning when I went to unlock the car with the fob the horn beeped. It normally does not beep.

Re: Car Alarm

it beeped when you unlocked the doors to let you know that your alarm went off...and yes I've had it not respond when i try and lock the doors...I usually open the door or stick the key in the ignition and that seems to fix it..dunno what couldda set your alarm off though.

Re: Car Alarm

Is this enough security for most?

Living in the big city, I felt totally inadequate with it and added an aftermarket alarm. So now my doors, glass, trunk are monitored in addition to shock sensors and ignition kill. This alarm is also one of the only systems that has a real (safe and legal) remote start for manual transmissions.

You NEED a remote start!

Re: Car Alarm

I got the base one. They have fancier ones that'll page you when the alarm goes off up to a couple of miles as well as have a display on the remote that tells you where your vehicle was attacked, i.e. driver's door.

Re: Car Alarm

Excellent price for all those features. Definitely going to invest in this. Might go with the one that pages you when your alarm is sounding though. That feature is pretty sweet.

Hey Urb,
Here's a line from the Compustar FAQ. This starter is soooo cool.

8. I have a manual transmission. How do I set my vehicle up to remote start?

A: You have to set reservation mode. Reservation involves leaving your gear in neutral. You must set your e-brake and a few seconds later remove the vehicle'skey from the ignition. Your vehicle will remain running until you exit your vehicle and close all doors. The motor will shut down and your remote will receive a page back (2-Way remote) and lock and arm the system.

Re: Car Alarm

This alarm only works for those who vehicles are left in neutral when they get out. The remote start will not be accessible if the car is left in gear. Essentially - If these steps are not followed in this basic order, remote start won't be available.

1. I pull into a spot
2. I depress the clutch and the brake
3. I place the car in neutral
4. Take foot off clutch and set eBarake
5. Take foot off brake
6. Remove key from ignition (car still running)
7. I exit the vehicle and close the door (car still running)
8. About 2 seconds later *chirp - car shuts off *chirp chirp - car arms itself

Upon my return,
I press the remote start button and VROOOMMMMMMM
I unlock the doors, get in, key in, and VROOOOOOMMMMM -- I'm out!

Exactly what I was wondering....what do you do....leave the car in neutral with only the parking brake applied? What about the clutch / and or if you accidentally leave it in gear??

read above for your answer...and as for trusting the e-brake...I guess it's not a prob for me in Fl, but the e-brake is all I use...I never leave it in gear.
