Possible to powdercoat the GM Optional Wheels?

Remove this ad
So I saw this thread ( http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...tional-gm.html ) and I love the look of these wheels ... I don't love the look of too much chrome though

It appears that the wheels are chromed and I would love to get a set and powdercoat them a nice semi gloss black to match the raven black of my V.

Is it possible to powdercoat over chrome?
Is the adhesion over the chrome going to be an issue?

I called two different powdercoaters in the city and one said that he doesn't think there would be a problem and the other said there is no telling how long the coat would stick because chrome doesn't allow the powder to properly stick.

Anyone have any experience with this?

I love the wheels (and the price is right), but I dislike the "bling"

I'm pretty sure they are just polished Aluminum, not chrome

hmmm ... that's possible I guess ...

I figured they were chromed because of the pics in that thread ... they look really shiny

Definitely not chrome...

They're polished... And I would think they could be powder coated without a problem...

^^^ I am sure they do.

Those would look great with a black powdercoat.

Re: Possible to powdercoat the GM Optional Wheels?

Even if they were chrome, I would think they could easily strip the chrome before powder coating. Or at least sand blasted the damned thing.
